rx-v2500 v. DENON 3805

I bought a rx-v2500 about 3 mo. ago. Went there to buy the 3805 and the salesman talked me into the yammy. Well when I hooked it up it did sound better than what I was used to. But after reading reviews, forums etc. all over the net I really am not satisfied that the yammy was the right choice. I went to my a/v store today and asked them to borrow their 3805 floor model so I could just put the issue to rest. They said I could swap the recievers if I preferd the 3805. I thought this was very impressive for a store to do this with an electronics product that has been used for 3 mo. straight! I'll let you know how it turns out. I cant wait. I hope the Denon kicks its a**. Not because its Denon over yammy. Just that my system will sound better.

Sounds like a win/win situation. You really cant go wrong if you are going to compare them side by side. In the future dont let the reviews and comments make you believe you may have made a bad choice. Sometimes I drive myself crazy lamenting over reviews and comments by others. This is especially frustrating AFTER the purchase. It seems after I read this or that and then sit down and listen to my system, a big smile still comes over my face and I realize I have it pretty damn good. J It could always be better but it could also be worse.
Have fun with your shoot-out and post your impressions

If the Denon doesn't kick the Yammy's **** in sound quality- i'll be very surprised.

I have the yamaha and love it. I tried both and with my speakers the yamaha sounded better. Don't worry about what you read just be concerned with what sounds good to you with your system.

I'll put my money on the Yamaha.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I'm a Denon guy myself...never card much for that bright Yamaha sound...but if you like it that's all that matters...

I'll put my money on not much of a difference. But the comparison has to be scientific. Blind tests at EXACTLY the same output level's, same listening position, same source and material, etc., etc. It also needs to be done over time. You should give it more than an hour also. A few days minimum.

If you A/B the two, you may not be able to tell the difference. If you do a double blind test, I am almost sure you cannot tell them apart. Most likely the 3805 is more powerful. Its a good deal if you are getting a new one. For one thing, the 3805 costs more.

Its only been 4hrs (wifes flippen) but the dennon is winning big time. I finally know what warm sounding is. The only problem i might have is the bass. My daughter is sleeping so I cant crank it up to see what it does. I like every kind of music but rap (sorry to those of you that do) and everything has been awesome on the Denon at moderate levels. I put Dave Mathews in and heard shi- I never heard before on his CD's.(SAX MOSTLY). MY WIFE EVEN SAID SHE LIKES THE DENON BETTER??????????? I just dont think the bass is as tight and that is what I like. I'll pop in the Metallica and Godsmack Thursday and let you know my decision. As for DVD it sounds pretty much the same. But from a music standpoint I think the Denon is alot better!!!! And if I do switch, I owe it to you guy's/gals and the guys/gals at audioholics. Thats what made my mind to--- free my mind of my wondering if I made the right decision and persue this. Oh and it is more user friendly and the remote is sweet. The speaker hookups are a pain vs the yammy. So I'm gonna get bannna plugs.
Thanks

Make sure you run the auto setup on each unit as well, since the distance and eq settings will have a big effect on the sound.

Denon all the way...
well unless you really enjoy listening to music in "German Bathroom" or "Swedish Toilet" sound modes.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Read a backdated issue of Sound and Vision not too long ago on the Denon 3805. They also addressed the slightly muddy sound to the bass, but also stated that they were able to clean that up quite a bit with the unit's EQ. If you are happy with the sound overall, sounds like you've got a winner. Tweak the EQ, or have a friend who knows how come over, until you have the bass where you're happy with it. Receivers are just like TV's. They have a certain level of quality out of the box, which can then be tailored to a particular room, customer, etc.
And I don't think the blind comparison would be that close. Yamaha is much brighter, in my opinion, just like Pioneer Elite. There is a big difference in sound between PE and Denon, and I find Denon to be much better for music. The 3805 is a great product, take it and don't look back.Current System:

 My first AVR was a Yamaha, can't even remember what model it was, but it had something like 24 different soundfields, Church, disco, stadium, Kelly's pool hall, etc. -
Denon 3805 is the winner hands down. The bass seems to be the same as the Yammy in my opinion. Hoping to tweak the EQ like the previous poster stated and make it even better. The sound is so much more pleasing to my ears. (And my wifes? If she can tell a difference then thats something!Brett Selinsky

bravo Toxis.
You can tell an average receiver from a great one by comparing the two with 2ch. music, not dolby 5.1. Obviously comparing with music is what won him over to the Denon. I knew it would. -

Just throwin my two cents in. I've had my RX-V992 for years and no problems. It has had a lot of hard use running home theater and I listen to 2 channel in the no effects mode. Its all subjective to the sound you like, but I can vouch for longevity as well.

I second that. I have 3 yamaha recv. over the last 22 years and they all still work just like new. I know alot of people here don't like the Yamaha's but I have tried a Harmon Kardon AVR and it was a bad unit so I got gun shy. I'm not saying I don't like Denon. I just think that Yamaha's (except the HTR line) make a great unit.
I keep reading on here about the WATT ratings and that Yamaha rates at 1KHz but thats only true for the HTR line. The rest are 20-20,000 with all channels driven.Michael
