In the final throws of the purchase and will ship today. Hopefully, I'll have her installed by Friday.

I bought this from Mike Knapp (some of you may know him). His first 950 was replaced with a new one due to some issues it had and Mike says this new girl has no bugs and is in perfect condition.

This will replace my current $99 klipsch 5.1 pre/pro. I bought the 950 for $400. A good deal I believe.

Anyone here have one and can offer up tips and the like?

Going to hold on to it for awhile, if not permanently. It's a great little pre/pro and I always like something on the sidelines for back-up.

If I do decide to let it go you'll be the first to know.

    Hi Ron,
I think you will be happy with the 950. I have been using mine as a movie pre for 2 years.

Mike is also a great carer for his equipment so it should be in great shape.

    Long live the driftwood!

I would very much like to see Doc do a review of the NHT Evolution subs. They are a royal pain in the a$$ to get set up the first time with their associated amps and crossover, but once dialed in, SVS' big, bad boy really ain't got too much (if any) on 'em. A total of 4 12" sealed aluminum drivers with 500 watts of power.

Hmm, 4 sealed 12's with 500W? Probably in the PB2-ISD to PB2+ range at best. Try running WinISD on those and compare. The sealed config kills the system for low and loud. My guess is it would compete to about 30Hz and then die off into distortion like the sunfires tend to do down there.

Hey Venomclan, any set-up tips you can offer up? I printed out the on line owner's manual to get a head start on this thing, 48 pages.

Now, I need to go find another pair of AB755 inwalls so I can add more rear channels. :)

Well, just take a look at the subs in my signature that you have commented on only about 3 times now.

JD, check out the following review of the NHT U2 sub system. Keep in mind that that this is the same as the sub system in the T5. The U1 or T6 is double the drivers and double the power of the one in this review.

Especially take note of the MEASUREMENTS on this critter. Brent Butterworth measured the U2 to be 26Hz-180Hz +/-.2dB (not 2, *point 2*) with the -3dB at 21Hz and 250Hz.

    http://www.hedmag.com/Measurements/2003/December-2003-Issue/NHT-Evolution-U2-Subwoofer-Measurements.asp

IMO, they are better than the BP12/2 Ultra on music.

Ron, what amps are you using? Is it still the Adcom 535s?

Its not a big deal... but we all discussed this before that its alittle distracting to see a few word reply and 10 lines of signature... kinda hard to see which is which...

Faster100, if it bothers you that much, there is a feature available in your profile where you can block seeing anybody's signature at all.

Ron, the 535 is a great little amp. I had one myself that was my first "real" stereo gear along with a Adcom tuner/pre-amp.

How does the 535 mate with the Polks IYO?

They mate very well with the Polks, I couldn't be happier. I'm running 4 of them in the theater and doubt I'll ever swap them out for something different.

No levels associated in that review would make me want to buy one over and SVS. Super flat curve? Great starting point, too bad your room will blow it up. All of the measurements I saw were on relative scales. Using that trick I could (With enough equalizers) make a single LSi7 look just as good in that range. Granted it only plays at 10 dB, but its still flat.

Also, his measurments are more than a little curious as the room should more than dominate the sub on a flat curve so a 0.2 dB +/- leads me to believe that the measurements are fabricated or all kinds of wacky eq'ing is going on. No way could this be out of the box.

If you like it, that's great, but based on that review alone, I would put it in the ISD2 league and no higher. Granted I haven't heard it. But WinISD and that review don't show what you're seeing.

All apoligies to Ron for the Derail...

No problem guys. A good discussion is a good discussion no matter the thread.

Besides, this is a good test for me to put those anger management skills I learned to work. ;)

BINGO on the first line! I have, both that and a SVS PB12/2 Ultra also. The in room response if anything is aided thanks to the acoustic suspension design. Plus the control and flexibilty provided by the X1 crossover.

Ditto on the second line too to Ron as I'm now out on off topic material on this thread.

    Hi Ron,
I will help any way I can with set up tips. I am using my 950 only for movies. My rears (Polk LS/FX) are hooked to an Adcom 535, hooked to the 950. My center is driven by an Outlaw M200, I use another preamp (Krell Kav250P) in home theater bypass to run some B&W's.

Are you using the 950 for music and movie duty? Do you need to use the bass controls for SACD?

Question. When I am set up for 6.1 or 7.1 and I spin a disk that is 5.1 what happens with these other channels? Do they matrix the sound somehow or just go unused?

They go unused unless you use one of the matrixing DSP modes on the pre. If you set it on autodetect, it will only run 5.1.

    Thanks jdhdiggs.

Well, she arrived yesterday. This thing is in perfect condition. Not a single scratch, dent, ding, not even the slightest bit of wear on any of the back connectors. I wonder if Mike even used the thing.

I was able to program everything into the remote last night, heck even the lighting to the theater works off this remote now, something my radio shack remote would do. Tonight I'll get her hard wired into the rig and give her a test run.
