I have a Yamaha RXV-2500 & a Denon DVD-955 that I use for HT & music. The DVD player has settings for speaker set up (ie Size, Distance, Level). The recieve has the same settings. Should I be running the DVD player in Source Direct. This turns off the speaker settings and level processing? I would think that I am double dipping with keeping both the reciever and DVD setting on. Seams link over processing.
Any adivce would be appicaited?
Thanks

JD, the settings on your player for speaker size, etc. affect only the 5.1 analog outputs which would be used if you were playing DVD-As/SACDs; the outputs for the other source materials aren't affected and the settings in your 2500 are responsible for them. The reason for the settings in the player is that they have to be made while the signals are in the digital rather than analog realm, so for DVD-As/SACDs they have to be made before the player does the digital to analog conversion and sends them out of the 5.1 analog outputs. So, unless you have those 5.1 analog outputs hooked up and are playing a DVD-A/SACD the player settings are meaningless and don't have to be made. If you are playing those source materials you should make the appropriate speaker settings in the player and no, you shouldn't set Source Direct because then you'd have no way to make the settings.

Thanks for the responce & info. The manual didn't indicate that the setting were only for 5.1 outputs. Since that is what I am using I will set them up.
