Well it isn't done yet and I don't even have the actual sub just yet but I've started building the box. I've cut the pieces and still need to glue the box together and do the finishing touches like flushmount the driver and ports, sand and paint. I havn't decided how to finish the box but I was throwing around the idea of a really dark black/gray camo design. I think I want to do something different than just paint it black. Also have to put feet on the thing. Not quite sure how high to make the box sit off the ground... probably around 4"? Still looking for some kind of high density foam to line it with...
Heres a picture of it basically dryfitted (still lots of work to come). I will be routering off the top and bottom lips to make it perfectly flush with the sides. Thats a 34" tv behind it to give some proportion to how big this thing is
edit: well I was just reading threads on soundillusions.net and some instructions on how to get a beautiful black finish on mdf but it looks like a lot of expensive paint and tons of work/time.... if I'm going to spend that much I might as well veneer the damn thing I'll probably leave it plain until I find a finish that tickles my fancy.

are you ready for some serous bass? and dont you love the cf dust cap

Thanks people... I do like the looks of the lips. Kind of looks like a friggin massive end table or something but they are only randomly oversized so that I can get it perfectly flush with a router later.
I've never been a room with massive clean bass (car not included) so it should be interesting.
This is what I'm replacing... I had to find out what the inside of my old sub looked like to compare. Athena Sub 8 - uses an 8" driver and this wimply little 4" square thing of a plate amp (with a seperate power supply about 3" by 3" below). If I thought that this sub sounded good with those crappy componnents going into the building of it I can't wait to see what this monster will do.
O and yes those CF dust caps are funky although I won't be seeing it since this will be downfiring. -
Heres a graph I came up with using unibox ... it looks kind of choppy but the overal spl/frequency is pretty smooth. 116 dB anechoic (I think that's an anechoic response graph). Placed in room that = . Just think of all the headroom listening at normal volumes... ooo so excited to hear this lol.
Heres the link cause the pic is big so that you can see graph properly -
T'was an eventful day today. I'm nearly finished the actual building part. I had to kind of modify the major internal brace to accomadate for the plate amp but it turned out just fine. When I attached the top and bottom I didn't bother clamping it and just relied on the weight of itself to apply the pressure. (also me sitting on top of it for about 5 mins to squish glue around and make a nice perty seal)
This cabinet is a very heavy beast and I'm really not looking foward to luggin it upstairs

dont forget to leave a couble of inches between the botom of the sub and the floor so it dont become a port and change the tuneing.

Yea I still have to put some feet on it. I was thinking 3" off the ground would be ok?
Today I sanded the whole thing and routered the edges to make it all flush then used a laminate trimmer to put a 1/4" roundover on it. I will post some pictures up later.
Heres the pic linky . It is sitting face down in that picture. Sadly that was the first time I've ever used a router and a laminate trimmer . Holy crap when I was cutting off the lips to make it flush my whole backyard was like a dust cyclone. The stuf just explodes in dust.
