Were there two different designs for the mon 5jr? I keep seeing two different designs on Ebay, one with a PR and one with a port.
Which is right? Does the seller not know what he has? If there is two different designs, which one is the prefered design?
Thanks

I noticed that too, must be another iteration of the model.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

The 5jr has the port. The regular Monitor 5's have a PR. My thought would be that the larger Monitor 5's are better... I have a pair of 5jr's and they lack quite a bit in bass (though they are bookself speakers...), and I'm thinking the PR designs of the Monitor 5's would take care of some of that. However, they are a physically larger speaker.Ludicrous gibs!

Woops... just checked the parts list and it shows that the 5jr+ and the 5jr+ Series 2 had the bass radiators.
All of the larger Monitor 5's had the PRs, tho.Ludicrous gibs! -
I thought there was a plus model. I bet the seller doesn't know what model he has. Talked to the guy in Illinois about his, but he wants too much to end the auction now. The appearance of his, from the pics he finally provided a week after he listed, look rough. Looks like a kid wrote all over the top with a sharpie. He does have some other nice gear he was looking to package up with the speakers, though. An Adcom GFA 545 II and a Conrad Johnson tube pre, can't remember which model, but wouldn't give me a price. He said he wouldn't want to leave any money on the table. That's when I got a little leary. I wanted him to start the negotiation. I negotiate sales everyday, and as the seller, I have to start with a price for the buyer to counter, if I didn't they would just make some idiotic offer that can't even be entertained. If I did entertain such an offer, it would be all but impossible to close that buyer. The only other thing I can think of is that he is clueless about the value of his gear and wants me to be the guinea pig."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

I think there was a Monitor 5jr that had a 6-ish inch PR in a smaller cabinet. Sort of like a Mini-Monitor on steroids.
Am I totally lost to the ages, or didn't the "normal" Monitor 5 have an 8" PR? -
My 1st pair of Polks were the 5B's. They had the Sl-2000 tweet and the typical 6.5 driver and 8" PR. At the time those were absolutely incredible. I actually wish I still had them as a 2nd pair. I think the series II had the better tweet, not sure though. I still may pick up a pair if I can get them reasonable. Those were the one's that started it for me. Damn, thinking back those 5B's were just fantastic!

I am using a pair of 5JR+'s made in 89. They have SL2000 tweets and 6.5 mids, and 6.5 PR. Yes, they do not have amazing bass, though I find it accurate if situated properly. I have an M&K VX-4 12' sub to fill in the lost bass.
Let's see...
Yamaha amp - free
Infocus PL770 projector - free
White sheet - free
Polk 5jr+ - $60
M&K Sub - $40
760 Gigabytes of High definition movies.
Not a bad home theater for a college student, huh? -
I once owned a pair of Monitor 4.6's which had a single 6.5 midbass 6502 and a SL2500 tweet along with a bass port. I got them with a blown SL2500 and never could find a replacement short of buying from polk directly. I ended up parting out the good components and throwing the cabinets on the burn pile 2 years ago.

Go away... you're not a real polk lover.
Burnt the cabinets? Gaah!

5b is best place to start with low funds. Can't go wrong with those except if you have wax in your year.Joey Ward
