Looks like A LOT of us are using 6DJ8/6922's. Would be interesting if we list our favorite tubes. I know I gave big props to the JAN 6922 but damn, this new JJ is THE BOMB!

Prior to using the JAN, my favorite was a Mullard 6DJ8. The mids and highs are incredible. Liquid smooth. Nice wide soundstage too. But it does lack punch and authority. This is a killer tube for vocals and softer material. This tube gives a very airy presentation. You could feel the singers breathing the air in your room. Scary. This is what I really like about it.

I really enjoyed the GE 6DJ8 as well. The bottle is black because there's some black chemicals sprayed in the inside of the glass to block out RF noise. This seems to be a pretty rare tube. Haven't heard much at all about it. Only seen it mentioned once on audioasylum. It gives a nice colored sound. Very warm but lacks deep bass. It's also missing the 'air' and presence of the Mullard.

Let's see, the JAN excels in dynamics but does sound a little aggressive in the high freq's. The presentation is forward. I still love this tube.

Now the JJ 6922. Oh boy, I can't say enough great things about this tube. It has the smoothness of Mullard and dynamics more powerful than JAN. Presentation is more laid back than JAN. The highs is VERY close to the Mullard. Hell it's pretty much identical. There's no way I could tell in a blind test. And that 'air' I was talking about with Mullard. It's on this tube as well. Only the JJ and Mullard exhibit this quality from what I've heard. The Mullard has a tiny bit more but who knows, maybe JJ will have more when it has more time to break in. But I'm not complaining. The mids is extremely smooth and engaging. It sounds similar to the mids I hear on the JJ E34L power tube. Very natural sounding with no over emphasis on warmth and not dry at all. Just right. And the bass hits hard and goes deep. This is the first 6922 that I just can't complain about. This is as close to perfect for my system so far. I can't believe I'm getting this kind of sound without going NOS. For the price, the JJ 6922 is a STEAL. I also got an EH 6922 but don't know when I'll be trying it out. Gonna keep the JJ in there for a while before trying something else. After trying the EH, I'm gonna try Ei.

So all you 6922 users, buy some JJ. I can't see anybody not liking the sound. If you don't like it, you can cyber kick my ****:p . $12 a pop. I got mine from www.thetubestore.com
