EQ problems

I have hooked up a Yamaha GE60 EQ to my AVR, as stated in my owners manual. I have no accessory jacks, so I am using the Tape jacks.. REC OUT to the INPUT of the EQ... and the PLAYBACK to the output of the EQ.. I am not running a Tape player. It doesn't work, and I am wondering if there is some setting that I am overlooking.

I think you'll have to select your source with the "tape monitor" switch in that configuration, leaving your main source selected to "Tape 1" or whichever input the EQ is on. Depending on the EQ, you may have a switch on it that needs to selected as well.

I have to ask, why an EQ?

Also be sure the tape loop you're using is a Tape MONITOR loop - many AVRs have a tape rec/play loop that is not a tape monitor loop. If its simply a tape loop, your EQ will only work when the tpae input is used on your AVR.

A tape monitor loop lets the AVR route audio from any non-digital input on the AVR through the EQ attached to the tape monitor loop. There will be a tape monitor button somewhere on the front panel of the AVR that will have to be pressed to engage the loop.

Also, even with a monitor loop, you will only ever EQ the main right and left channels.

Steve sort'a took the words right out of my mouth, err off my keyboard, or from some place, but at any rate..... yeah, why stick an EQ into the signal path??

well, mainly because I have the room in my rack, and thought I could maybe tweek things a little, however being that my AVR has just the tape loop, and not a monitor loop, I dont think I want to re-install my tape deck, just to use the EQ, so I believe my EQ venture is over.... maybe I will use the room up with another amp :)

Oh, come on. Evil??? maybe a little ornery, but evil???

I use them. It's a personal preference. But you can use them to overcome some room deficiencies. The secret is not to over use them.;)

Your right brotha, when used correctly they can be very effective, unfortunately most use them as "super" tone controls.
