To enhance/outperform the bass from your front speakers (I assume the big SDA-SRS'), you'll need to go a lot higher than the Polk subs. Check HSU, SVS, Rocket, Velodyne and some paradigm subs and find what you like. You can often times check around to get demos of the HSU, Rocket, and SVS subsThere is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

SVS. With subs, the bass you can't hear (IE below 20Hz) is just as important as the bass you can (in my opinion).

how big is your room?

the room is 15 x 15 however, not completely closed in, one side kind of opens in to another part of the house...

i looked at and listened to a lot of subs before i decided on my velodyne dls-500r. with a room that size a 12" from hsu, svs, or velodyne (my fav) will sound great. take a look at the velodyne dls-4000, i think you will be very happy with it.
