Rear center 6.1
So, Ive got the system set-up. RTi 8s for the fronts, FXi 5s for the rears and CSi 5 for the center. All driven with a Yamaha RXV-2500 and a Denon DVD-955. Also have the SVS PB12-ISD. System sounds great!! Now I was looking for a rear back speaker. Was thinking of an FXi 5 but was not sure if a R15 might work. It's alot cheaper. Just need the 1 speaker since the wiring is already completed. Anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences.

yeah you definalty do not have to use a center speaker as your center back speaker. Plus that csi5 would be a haus to have to mount somehow on the wall unless you were going to put on a stand. plus that would be kind of expensive when you couldjust get a single bookshelf speaker and do the same thing like you thinking about doing.
However i would recomend against the r15 becasue it would not match as well with the rest of your speakers. I would go with either the rti6 or the rti4 so it will blend nicely (the 6 more so than the 4.... but i would imagine price being the deciding factor like it is in to many other endevours) ....damn money...... -
If you want to save money you can :
1-leave it as a 5.1 ( a 5.1 set done properly will sound better than a 6.1 set up just ok)
2-use the r15 it's the surrounds they don't play a huge part.
3- don't buy the 6's or 4's buy yourself a csi3. cheaper over the 4's or 6's .You will only get one speaker so you don't feel aas though you wasted money cause you have an extra lying around.
4-buy the 4's or 6's and find somone who wants one as well split the cost.
5-do what ever the heck you want -

Hell yeah..... i think that is the best piece of advice anyone can give! -
Do whatever you want is good enough advice, but if people wanted to hear that they wouldn't post these questions. People ask for options, we give it to them.
I use a single Rti4 for my 6.1 rear center, and was able to get the guy at Circuit City to split a box for me, seeming as how I was spending $2000 on speakers.
Personally, if you're setting up your system once and you want to do it right the first time, look for a single bookshelf Rti 4 or 6. That would be the best fit for your system. Willow had a few good ideas-see if anyone else on the forum would like to go in for half on a pair, or see what you can dig up on Ebay. Much better to get a used better speaker, rather than a new lesser speaker (R15) that won't match your system. Just cause the surrounds get used less doesn't mean you should cheap out, as it will still give you a better epxerience to have good speakers all around, especially for those sweet DTS 6.1 mixes.Current System:
