sorry this is going to be long. but... worth it.
As most all know I recently lucked into a pair of SDA SRS's from a fellow Polkie on here. very happy with them.
When i got them hooked up at home.. with my Adcom amp.. it toasted the left channel. %#!_&! I wasn't to happy about it... amp repairs i hear can be pricey.. not to mention the shipping costs associated with a 20+ lb amp.
So I checked on the Adcom web site for a authorized repair shop.. lots of them listed.. only two in my state. 1 in Seattle (about 4.5 hours away).. and the other about 90 minutes from me.. Woo Hoo!
Now i live in a medium sized city... of about 175,000 peeps. So i expected the repair shop to be located in my city. Well it's not. LIke I said, it's 90 mins North of me.. in a really tiny city of about 4,000 people. Kinda backward little place if you know what i mean. Logging is the main industry there.
SO i call up the owner Theresa at Sound Technology and explain to her that i blew out the left channel.. blah, blah, blah on my speakers. She says.. "bring it in". So i ask her about repair costs.. someone had mentioned it to me. that amp repairs usually run about $50 + an hour.
She tells me there is a standard $30 charge to diagnoise the problem. but that $30 wil go towards the cost of repairs. I say.. ok., i'd like to get it fixed.
So i get it there last Friday morning. She says.. she's pretty busy with all the stuff that's come in.. but that she would look at it and get back to me on Monday or Tues at the latest. Wow! Ok I had my doubts..
Tues afternoon she calls and says, "it's ready to go". I ask... so what's the damage to my pocketbook? She says... it's paid for.. I guess the $30 i paid for the diagnosis covered the repair, bias adjustment, cleaning and proper set up back to factory specs.
Dang! No only did it no cost much. I got it back in what has to be record time for any stereo repair, period. It works like a charm again. I can't even imagine how much i would have had to pay to ship it out and return shipping costs.
Get this... not only does she work on Adcom... she is in the process of getting authorization for mahy other brands of stereo gear, including. NAD, Toshiba, Pioneer, Samsung, JVC, Harmon Kardon, Infinity, JBL, and RCA
and may expand to include Philips/Magnavox, Sony, and Yamaha.
get this! She also refoams speakers! foam AND rubber. Hot damn!
I'm very happy i found her small company. Yeah it's 90 minutes away.. but so worth the driving hassles.
Sound technology if anyone wants to check out the web site. It's a very small business, with big results.
the end.....

You got a big screen, I see they do ISF calibrations too.

Glad you're back in business, Al! Did she tell you what was diagnosed and repaired on the amp?

Sheeeet... at that price you can afford try it on the SRS's again...
Glad to read that the repair was so reasonable. Now call Adcom and check out the strapping of the neg terminals...
And give her all the business you can now. Once she's established her prices are only going to go up.More later,
Tour...

it turned out to be the rail fuse on the left channel that i blew out.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Those SRSs will blow those rail fuses everytime. Call that lady and see if you can get on their weekly route to pick up, fix, and deliver your amp back to you. On second thought, you'd be better off if you just send the SRSs to me.
How do they sound? I've been lusting after a pair for a while. If I find some local, I still haven't figured out what I'll tell the wife when she figures out the SDA 2s have grown.SDA 2s; HSU STF-2; Yamaha RX-V1
