The Tour Tour.....

Just got through spending a while with Bruce (Tour2ma) as he passed through Knoxville. He was supposed to come by the house last night but couldn't get his butt out of Houston fast enough so he stayed in Chattanooga last night (with my directions to some relatively cheap accommodations). My office is a couple hundred yards from I-40 so he pulled off and we grabbed a cup of coffee and visited for a few. I finally got my Seatrain CD (promised at the SC Polkfest) and a bonus Hamilton Loomis CD. Listened to a few tracks in the car before he had to hit the road. He's off to Roanoke to pick up some obscure gear he found on e-bay. I tried to get him to go by Uptown Audio (A wonderful high-end audio store) there in town...but it was all NEW stuff and has little interest to him.

You guys in the NE beware...he is headed up I-81 as I type. There are lots of stops on the itinerary as I understand. Dorokusai and BlueMDpicker (and others) were mentioned as possible targets...you've been warned. :D

Whoever is expecting him, you better put tape down, take some pictures, draw some lines - SOMETHING so you know where your speakers WERE placed before his visit.

Bruce is a 'hands on' audio enthusiast.

So.....I take it you find your job fullfilling and intellectually challenging and would do it for even less than the few pennies they toss your way....right?;)

Trust me....I don't think you would have wanted to see Bruce draggin' into your home at 11:30 after 12+ hours of driving. Why do you think I directed him to the Microtel? At least this morning he had a shower (I think)...

Seriously...I enjoyed seeing him again. I have already put some time on the rig with the CDs he dropped off. Thanks Bruce! Funny thing though....the door speaker on the passenger side of my car looks like it's been moved.....

Bruce made it by today and it was a pleasure meeting him. Great guy! We got to spin a few tunes on various gear setups and even catch some Mayall and the Bluesbreakers on DVD. He's the kind of guy you feel like you've known forever -- turned me on to some great music as well. The time flew by way too fast.

    Have a safe tour, brother.

Sorry he's late for dinner, Doro. It's all my fault. He's headed West as I type.

You should have kept him at your house Mike....but he's now officially gone. The house has been sterilized and a protective order issued barring him from any further contact.

It was great to see Bruce again and he was actually on his best behavior the entire time. I made him a Texas sized steak dinner that he was apprehensive about at first, but he ate everything....even started gnawing on the bone, no kidding  The fruit bat even likes him, so he must be doing something right as a houseguest.

We chilled out and smoked a nice cigar in honor of RonP's cigars that are still sitting in my humidor....and busted open the Knob Creek bourbon. Needless to say, that 2 beers and a bottle of bourbon later....Bruce was lit up like a campfire but we chilled and listened to some tunes that he brought. DeeLite was not allowed to be played on the rig.

I only woke up once to find Bruce at the foot of my bed staring at me...but I just shooed him away with a broomhandle. After that he was doing his best impression of Hoosier21, aka "The Buzzsaw", in the guestroom.

The next day was the semi-critical listening on the Carver Amazing and the Mission Argonaut. He knows the Carvers pretty well, so nothing really of note to relay. He wanted to swap them around, to put the ribbons on the outside, to enlarge the soundstage but we just got lazy. I will probably move them apart a little more to widen the sweetspot as it is a little narrow for a speaker that is more than capable of filling up a room.

I rolled in the Argonauts for him to get some ears on and I believe he was duly impressed. I'll let him expound on his actual impressions, but the speaker is simply outstsanding....that's why I have kept them.

    Doro's songlist for Tour:
    Poe - Hello
    Lizzie West - Holy Road
Kings of Leon - Youth and Young Manhood
    Cootie Stark - Raw Sugar
    Indigenous - Things We Do
Concrete Blond - Still in Hollywood
    Jamie Cullin - Twentysomething
Various - Kinda Jazzy, Kinda Funky
King Missile - Happy Hour (If you have not heard "Detachable ****" on a high end stereo, you are missing out :D )

Tour turned me onto a few things I will be picking up in the near future....for example:

    Dave Mason - Greatest Hits
    JJ Cale - Best of...
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session
    Joe Walsh - Best of...
    Stravinsky - Firebird - Charles Dutoit/Montreal Symphony

It was a great visit with a good friend, thanks for stopping by Bruce :) Here he is....bourbon in hand, ready to turn up the volume.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Mike's pic, it looks like he is leaning forward, about to cut a ****.

    Mark's pic - 2nd gear.

So, did he stand in front of any of the rigs, dead center, and start headbanging like he did at SC Polkfest?

    I am all alone
Their is no one here to hide me
And my problems are all gone
There is no one to deride me....

But you've got to have friends...

    Buzzy Linhart

Sitting at me Scotish bro's keyboard in Wilmongton, MD for a bit waiting for the wife's flight to finally get off the ground, then it's off to Zoo Jersey for a pick up.

ROFL guys. It's been a pleasure so far, refreshing old acquantances and adding new ones, both two and four legged. My thanks for all the hospitality shown me.

My pictoral replies will have to wait a bit, but I have two rare photos in camera: shack is his work uni and the reclusive BMDP...
Wanted a pic of Doro's cat, Hera, but couldn't get the damn thing to sit still (if you've seen Hera, you understand). And the Pug-nacious "Calie", would have eaten the camera.
    More later,
    Tour...
