Adcom GFA 7500 channel problem

Had my center channel unplugged on the speaker side and the wires touched, thought I had the amp turned off.....well I thought wrong. Opened the hood and replaced the fuse (it was fried).
Now the center channel thermal protect light stays illuminated, and still no output on this channel, all the other channels work.

What else can I check?

Sincerely, (ashamed and embarrassed )

    gwh, (just edited the name)

Adcom amps are built like tanks, and frankly one short like that shouldn't take out the output transistor. I know the 2 channel Adcoms have A.C. line fuses and D.C. rail fuses. The AC line fuse is accessible from outside the unit but the DC rail fuses are internal. Now I don't have any experience w/ the multi channel units so I can't say if there's more to look for. Have you checked the owners manual or checked the net, must be missing something. Again it would be very odd that one little short like would damage the outputs. But anything is possible

Have you had a chance to call Adcom yet?

You can check the DIYAUDIO forum, but the threads can get a bit technical if you don't have a basic understanding of electrical circuits. Just do a search for Adcom. I did that recently but don't remember if your particular problem came up. Actually on that forum there are a lot of former Adcom techs who answer questions. Worth a try!

I opened it up again and peaked at the circuit board, didn’t see any obvious signs of sizzle.
    Guess I’d better contact Adcom.

    Thanks for the replies,

Well no reply from Adcom, guys on the DIY forum seemed to think it needed surgery.
Anybody here repair Adcoms? Any of you Texas members know of a reliable competent repair tech somewhere just south of the Red River? Austin Texas looks like the closest authorized repair shop, really hate to tie $ up in shipping though.

If you're like me you'd probably rather email than call, but the Adcom people are GREAT on the phone... Give them a call.

Also- the DC rail fuse is the most likely culprit- look for a fuse on the channel module that's dead- oh, and be very careful poking around in there- some of those cap's will stay charged for awhile.

    e-mail them dude.

They're no Outlaw or Polk Customer service- but you should get a reply within 3-5 days.

Did you fix your center channel problem? Mind sharing the solution?
    Thanks.

Disconnect the thermal protection led from the board that says thermal overload protection. I learned this trick from an Adcom tech. No guaranties, but it is an easy "fix" sometimes. The channel is most likely not blown, and being the center channel it is highly unlikely to get over loaded like the mains would. If it works I would just run it;) Email me if you have further issues. I very rarely drop by here.
