Thanks all for taking my question. Looking at various used amps for my system, and here is my question. If I was to buy a higher priced amp at 5 channels, verses multiple amps to achieve the 5.1, What would be the advantages or disadvantages. I do know like I said price would be a factor. I am upgrading to the lsi speakers and I want to use them with a 5.1 system. Thanks Doug

Biggest advantage is you would only have 1 big box & need 1 outlet for all of your speakers!

If I had known at the time that a separate amp would make that much difference, I would have saved my pennies & just purchased an Outlaw 755 & never have to worry about purchasing another amp again.

You might look at this amp on Audiogon.
    Outlaw 750
It has plenty of power for the LSi's, will be good quality, should still have three years left on the warranty, and is a great price.

This sounds pretty good but he has no feedback and no picture.:(

All things being equal mono-blocks will sound better than a single 5 ch amp. Individual power supplies is one of the big reasons.

Where would he plug all of those monoblocks into? I just have 1 outlet on the wall where my equipment is & I have 2 power strips plugged in to it. 10 pieces require power, 2 of which are my amps. If I had 5 mono's I wouldn't have enough left over for all of my other equipment.

Does anyone on the board have a 5 channel amp & a 2 channel amp that they can say the 5 channel sounds worse than the 2 channel?

I have a VEI Power Panel V-8000. This is a unit that has 8 output plugs each with its own individual switch. I plug all of my amps into this so that I don't turn them all on at once which can blow out a single switch. This unit plugs into one outlet of my Intinsic Sound power conditioner. I also have a power strip that I have 7 low current pieces such as pre-amps, tuners, CD player, etc. pluged into that I turn on all at once. The power strip is then pluged into the power conditioner. The power conditioner is plugged into the wall so the entire system only requires one wall socket. Phil

I used to have 4 amps besides the huge AVR, 1 for the rear channels and 1 each for FR, FL and center. All of that on top of a CD player, DVD player, sattelite receiver, outboard DAC, turntable, subwoofer. I had to cram a second audio rack in the already too small room and had freakin' wires all over the place. The hell with that ****......just 2 channel for now.
