i posted this question in the sub forum, but this seems a more appropriate place for it. I have a 01 sentra with factory cd player, and i like it, it works fine. I dont want to get an aftermarket radio cause they tend to be "tempting" to theives. SO... i just got a set of db650's and 675's to replace my speakers and i was looking into an amp for them. I have some experience installing amps and speakers, but i was wondering how i could wire that up, cause im not sure if my stock radio has a "rem" output. I read that its possible to use a switched 12v line that connects to the rem input on the amp, but will that actually work?

First let me just say you should really reconsider not getting an aftermarket head unit. The difference in SQ between the speaker level inputs of your stock unit to a set of 4 volt passive pre-outs of an aftermarket unit will be a bunch. You can always take the faceplate off like I do.

The way I always did it was to run a wire from a fuse in the fuse box that came on with the ignition (I always used the radio fuse) to the amps remote input. This way the amp will turn on when the ignition is on. The downside is the amp will stay on as long as the ignition is on even if the h/u is off. Another reason to get an aftermarket h/u. ;)

maybe i will look into it, whats a good brand to go with, i just need something fairly simple and not too expensive...
i just have this creeping paranoia cause a few of my friends stereos were stolen and they dont do a nice clean job of it, my one friend had most of his dashboard torn out... then again he was in the ghetto of philadelphia...

you also mentioned rca pre-outs, would i need 2 sets if i wanted to have all 4 speakers on a single 4 channel amp?

Yes. You COULD do it on 1 set, but you'd lose the ability to fade left/right. Most quality HU's have at least 2 if not 3 sets of pre-outs, so you shouldn't worry too much there. You can get a nice pioneer on a budget that has a removable faceplate.

Blau is ok, but I'd stick to Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, and Eclipse.

Agreed. Alpine and Pioneer are at the top of the heap in my opinion followed closely by Eclipse.

    Id stay away from Blah-punked.

I would indeed assume that the 'set' designation means one pair. I second Alpine and Pioneer Premier. Alpine's new CDA-9855 (and CDA-9853) have a new cool touch-pad like control bar at the bottom - really neat to play around with. I'm using a Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP and am very happy with it.

Yup, a set is a pair.

Youll want to get 3 sets. One for front, rear and subwoofer. This will leave you room for upgraded in the future. And look for voltages as high as you can. Try to get at least 4.
