SDA CRS speakers worth it?
So I have 2 2.1 setups. One uses a pair of LSi9s the other has a pair of RTi38s (with ULW-10 and Dayton 10" subs respectively). Would It be worth it to bid on a pair of SDA CRS speakers that are within pickup range? They're something like 30 or 40 minutes away (in Glen Ellyn, IL). If I win I'll probably have to sell my 38s.

What's the price? When you buy an SDA, let alone ANY speaker....it always depends on simply 3 areas....physical condition, driver compliment and performance. I look for condition when it comes to Polk's because I have everything else available to me as a consumer. The price is on you as the buyer.
An SDA is a totally different speaker than you're currently used to, so NATURALLY you should be interested.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Its on ebay now, one of the 2 pairs. Its price is at 175 right now but I'm sure it'll be in the mid 200s at least by close...My only concern is that people consider the +s to sound so much better, is it worth going after a pair of CRSs? How would they compare to my current lineup. Both speakers are run off of external amps, no receivers here

I've heard them both in excess. SDA's are always going to give you BIG sound, and the SDA CRS(Etc) throw the biggest soundstage of any bookshelf that I've EVER heard.
The original CRS have an SDA tweeter, and it doesn't sound bad, it's just different to the folks that never heard it before(e.g. later SDA fans)....no more no less. They are SDA newbies at that point.
If you enjoy the SL1000/Sl2000 tweeter sound, then you should buy them. I do not listen to either of those tweeters, period, they simply scream resale. The SDA CRS, and their family are much better speakers with the new tweeters, IMO. I currently own CRS w/ upgraded tweeters....excellent.
I would avoid anything that has SL1000, unless you are handy with power tools. There is no drop-in replacement for the SL1000 or Peerless tweeter, in regards to Polk Audio.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? how can one tell what the tweeter is?

The Peerless and the SL1000 have the voice coil wires sloped down at a 45 degree angle. The SL2000 goes straight out, left and right. The drop in replacement for the SL2000 is the RD0194-1.Political Correctness'.........defined

The SL1000 is an easy spot due to its silver plate.
If they are that close to you, call that "isoldit" and see if an inspection/ audition is OK.More later,

Just my .02
As I've said before, my 2.3tl's aren't going anywhere BUT I could very easily live with a pair of CRS's as my primary speakers.
That said, what you pay for them is an individual thing. What I mean is, what they are selling for and what they are really worth are two different things. IMO, you could pay more than the going rate and STILL wind up with a great value.

I think that they are a good deal, even with the SL1000's. Getting into SDA sound for less than $250 seems like a no brainer. Plus, you don't have to worry about some bozo "drop" shipping them to your door. About the only downsides are that you can't hear them first and you have to pay sales tax. Unless of course, you can convience them your from Wis. Ya Hey der!

I wanted to love my SDA CRS+ ... but aside from vocals and acoustic music, I just couldn't. Sad.
Problem is, I just can't stand slow (comparatively) midbass and bass -- that's why I greatly prefer the RT55i's to the RT800i's -- and after being used to hearing my RTA 12C's, I knew something wasn't quite right with the CRS+'s. My RTA 12C's are extremely fast in the lower registers and have now gone back into starting duty.
It's quite possible that I just have a great pair of RTA's -- they appear to be as close to airtight as any speaker could, the midranges holding their position for as long as I maintain pressure on the passives -- and don't have the best pair of CRS+'s, I don't know. I do know that both are in fantastic cosmetic shape.
The CRS+'s certainly do have some magic on easier to assimilate passages, partly because of the RD 0194-1's and the SDA presentation, but they get sluggish to my ears on more complex pieces, and that, frankly, is a deal breaker for me.They CAN sound great, I just have to find the appropriate application for them. Maybe better placement and better stands, a subwoofer...
