Here is my new Ascendant Audio Atlas 15. It just arrived.

It will be going into a 9 cubic foot Sonotube style sub, tuned to 20 Hz. I hope to start the build of this beast this weekend.

I got the two atlas 12" subs on Tuesday. They weigh in at 23 pounds each. I will use one for my one house when we get it built this summer. I am going to build an enclosure and sell the other one in an install job I'm doing.

If I could afford to, I'd keep them both.

I finally hope to see for myself what all the fuss is about with 20-30 Hz bass sound effects in movies.

I have one fear, that this monster will break out the two 60 year old storm windows in the basement that haven't been replaced yet. If they do blow out, it will give me a reason to get the glass block windows installed.

I couldn't pass up the sale either.

You guys are gonna luv those woofs. Got an Atlas 12 a couple months ago and it's damn near overkill for my room (13' x 20'). Very clean sound. Say "goodbye" to boominess.

cool... I thought about picking one since they are on clearance but damn border fees would make it a little more than I think I want to spend. How would this compare to the driver in the svs pci series subs? (svs 12" ISD) If I bought one of these and found a good amp for it could it rival a SVS?

Looking foward to seeing your project come together.

Mine replaced the SVS 12" ISD. I considered it an upgrade, indeed.

damnit I think I might be buying myself another birthday present but only a month early this time :D ... I'm thinking I'll see if I can use the plate amp out of my Athena Sub 8 to power it until I can get something better. I would probalby stick it in a ported box tuned to 21 hz or something. Maybe a box like in pic but modified to right enclosure size... bah I can work that out later. Would I need to stuff it with polyfill or something ? I've never made an enclosure before...

Now all I have to do is convince my mom to let me use her credit card to buy it since they don't take any other payments (don't have paypal)

Polyfill in a ported box can sometimes create problems due to the fill blowing around and getting balled up in front of ports. Sealed boxes work great with polyfill. I like to use rubber foam or thick felt as an internal box coating to tame some of the box resonance.
