For the people that have at least heard them, is the MM2124 equivalent to any of the JL subs? Maybe 12W3v2?

I am anti-JL so I vote for Polk

if not look into SoundSplinter, the RL-i would be along those lines of the two previously mentioned subs

As far as SQ, is it the same as W6v2?

The Polk is much better than the W3 but the W6 is another story.

I think the W6 is the best sounding sub on the market. But it costs $400 where the Momo is $150.

Ya get what you pay for.

I have the sub sitting on my bed right now without a box to put it in & I gotta tell you, this thing dwarfs my old GNX. My box should be built by sat., you just cant find any prefab 12" truck boxes around here. Also I took out my GNX sub from the box & touched the cone & it was really flexable, the thing must warp like crazy when you actually play music through it. Im looking forward to getting the eclipse in there though, Im sure its in a whole different league just from looking at build quality alone.

Well I got the driver in the box & have been listening for about 2 days now & let me tell you this thing is great! I dont have a huge hands on experience listening to different subs so im not going to say that this is better than driver x & driver y. But I know what kinda bass I like & this delivers. I never knew how "dirty" or boomy" sounding my GNX was untill I got this. I have my sub in the trunk with my seats folded down & with the GNX my sound would be drawn torwards the rear a little & with the eclipse it joins with my Focal components up front nicely & the only thing that makes me think that the sub is behind me is the slam in my back. Im still taking it easy on it right now trying to let it break in a little but in reality my old GNX got plenty loud for my tastes but this thing just added the detail, the impact & the distortion free sound that I was missing, & all for $135 brand new off ebay!

Cool! Glad you got it working.

For a head unit manufacturer, Eclipse does make pretty nice subs.

Plus, as the saying goes,"ya get what you pay for!" ;)

I had it put in a custom built 1.2 cf box & the sub takes up .1cf. One thing I was wondering, do you guys think I should brace it, the shop didnt add any bracing.

Saying that the W3v2 is an inferior sub is just inaccurate. While the Polk can handle considerable more power and reach higher db, that does not make it better. I have had the two, along with other woofers, side by side for testing and I can tell you that in a small box (2/3 of a cube) with moderate to low levels of power (100-160 watts) the W3v2 far outperforms. If you have more power, then the W6v2 or the W7 have no Polk competitor. JL has their audiophile reputation for a reason, its not just "smoke and mirrors."

Im basing my statement on A) the Polk handles more power and B) it sounds better. Those two things lead me to claim the Polk is superior to the W3.

But as I stated earlier, the W6 and especially W7 are much better subs.....that cost 3-5 times as much so theyd better be.

probably, but if you like the sound, there's no reason to do anything to the box...

more detail: a cube of 3/4" MDF is astoundingly strong - i'd not be surprised to see it support a car. the sub you have in there is not powerful enough to bend that stuff (not even the titanium pros would bend that). you start to get into bracing when: 1) you have resonances, and the bracing can help break those up; 2) the box has long flat areas that are more prone to flexing; or 3) you have a bigish box and want to take up more room inside. i don't think any of those apply to you... now, other people may say 'yes' to bracing by default, and i would too, but putting bracing in changes the volume of the box, which could change the sound. it could concievably make it better, true, but who knows. if you want to try it, cut out a few braces and just toss them in the box, seal it back up, and take a listen. if you still like the sound, screw in those braces and enjoy.

that's what i'd do, at least.

If you honestly believe that then youre crazy. I would never put sound quality and w3 in the same sentence. The noise from the w3's motor is far worse than any i have ever heard. I have to admit the new ones are better, but dollar for dollar, id take the polk in an sq or spl install over the w3, hands down

Cody and I agree about JL twice in the same week?????

Well, not really I guess. I wouldnt exactly call the W3 "noisey". Its a damn fine sub I just dont think it sounds as good as the Polk.

what is this 'motor noise' of which you speak? how is it that a solid magnet has noise?

Since you performed a "side by side" test, where is the empirical data you collected to corroborate your claims? Or are you just a JL fanboy spouting off about things you know little about?
