I was just browsing Outlaw's website (drooling over their monoblocks) when I ran across their new 990 Preamp. Does anybody know anything about it? It seems it's not even available yet, but is there word out about it yet? Just kind of curious about it, as I recall that a few folks didn't like their 950 preamp.

Here it is on their site.

The Outlaw 990 is based on the Sherwood Newcastle P-965 preamp with a few added features like DVI switching and balanced analog pre-outs.

    audiobliss...

The outlaw 990 is for sale now ( although I do think that those on the waiting list that was started have the first crack at it).

Several people have confirmed that their units are on the way as we speak.

So far only 3 people actually have them in their home, and there is some feedback from at least one of them over at the outlaw forums..

There has been quite a bit posted so far, check out the link below:

I am on the waiting list and am looking foward to purchasing the 990. I have a 755 amp that drives my Lsi 15's, and I really like the amp. So....

    just to let you know....

    malikarshad,

My first impressions of the 990,

    ITS HUGE!!!

If you have a small equipment rack it may not be for you due to its size. It is a monster, at almost 18 inches deep, 17.5 inches wide and 8 inches high... it is a beast.

As far as audio is concerned this is a big step up for me, about a year ago I went for the outlaw 755 amp and was using the Denon 2800 as my pre-amp. The 2800 did not even have digital inputs.

In my setup the 990 offers better imaging, and you can really tell that the surronds are getting more work. I have not had a whole bunch of time to play around with it, but so far everything is great! I have used the 990 to upsample my CD player, and I really like the result. I do feel that this will be come the default manner in which I will listen to my CD's in the future. I do think that this is a great product at a very attractive price point. I can not really speak to the video portions of the unit as I am not using them.

I hope to have a more in depth review on my website soon. In the mean time you might want to check out this review :

As far as I am concerned two thumbs up!!

One thing's for sure, it's better than the 950. I mean, it could't be worse.

That thing was one of my biggest disapointments.
    Go BIG or go home!

sorry to hear that sowen010599, Lot's of people liked the 950, it was a little rough out of the starting gate, but Outlaw fixed all those issues as far as I know. Outlaw seemed to have learned their lesson on the 950 and have done some pretty nice stuff with the 990. The auto setup is awesome, and is pretty much dead on. I did not have to tweek anything (speaker distance, delay, volume)

I never had the 950, but I do own the 755 and now the 990 and I feel that it is a great deal. That being said, it is only 1100.00 bucks so....the line has to be drawn some where.... but the 990 includes a lot of features that many 3000.00 pre-amps include....

All in all I like it a lot. I will have a full review up hopefully by the end of the week.
