After leaving Tweeter I figured I'd round off my afternoon by hitting my favorite hifi store, Audio Images. I was planning on listening to the Magnepan MG1.6/QR planar speakers and the B&W Nautilus 805 bookshelfs. When I enquired about the B&W's the salesman tells me he has something better and for the same price. He points me to the $2000 Revel M20 bookshelf speakers (see link below). To put it simply, these things freakin' rock! Amazing! They completely destroy the Sonus Faber Concerto's in every respect. They're so incredibly detailed, smooth, quick, alive, and they image like nobody's business. I thought their bass performance was quite good, too, but supposedly the digital preamp/processor I was listening to them on was filtering out all the bass under 100Hz. I find this hard to believe, though. The system was made up of Rotel components. Nothing super fancy, but all nice stuff. The salesman said if I'm really serious he'd hook them up to the some more serious equipment to really hear what they can do. Regardless, I was still floored by their performance. The stands for them only cost $200, too. Here's the odd thing: the grilles cost $175 EACH! What's up with that? For $350 I think I'll pass on grilles.

It's amazing how much difference there is between speakers that are all priced about the same. The difference in performance is staggering! Needless to say, the Revel M20 is now my favorite speaker. Next time I stop in I'm going to A/B it to the Maggies, my other speaker fav.

It's also worthwhile to mention that these things are built like a truck. They are totally innert. Wrap on the cabinets, and the only thing you'll hear is a dull thud. At 45lb. each, they are solid.

$2,000:eek: that's getting up there for a bookshelf! sounds like their worth the $$$ from your review though. i've never heard these personally, but i would love to give them a shot if i ever had the chance...

i'd pass on the grilles too, put that towards some quality cables rather than dust covers:D
