Tower Rebuild Pic 1
Yep, here are the stopping point pics of this year...
Next year will be spent on the baffles and finishing them up...
There will be another brace below the port, when it is installed...

Foam pads in place on one...
These foam pads arnt as thick " wise, but they are denser, so I don't think it is going to make a difference, and I am putting more in there than there was before...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
My room is starting to look like a work shop of some sort...stuff is everywhere..

The grain pattern in your boards looks exactly like the grain pattern in my speakers.

Big port- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I have had an incredibly difficult time trying to get the seams in my enclosures NOT to show through that vinyl. I think I'm just going to start using veneer.
Your enclosures look good. -
Yeah, mine arnt perfect, and you can tell - definetely since i had to sandwhich 3 pieces of wood together on the bottom...
But its only noticeable in direct light right up on it, just walking right above it, etc... looks absolutely fine...
I got off, and I had to do the top like companies do - I had to cut the side piece from the top, then do a top, then run it down the other side...very time consuming...jeez
Thanks!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

why didnt you just foam pad the old def tech enclosure and then make the caps rosewood?
-
I dont understand what you are asking....
My enclosure is a bit different than DTs...
I am using denser wood, added bracing, denser foam pads...
The original DT enclosure uses foam pads, just something all DTs use - but they arnt as dense as the ones I am using, but they are thicker 1" vs. my 3/4" desner foam pads.
I'm also kind of ready for a different look outside of sock and cap...
And why didnt I just put the foam inside the original DTs, where do you think I can stick foam in there? In the crossover hole...or the 6.5" hole?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Hmm...only been done with one for about a month now...just now getting to posting a pic here...hmm

Thanks!
I plan to build more, so hopefully I will get better. I learned alot through this project, being this is the first time I've EVER used real wood that required finishing other than wrapping it in cloth....I hate real wood now!
Anyways, as for how it sounds...
It sounds the same, if not better. The enclosure is alot more inert, especially in the lower section.... big time!
The sound, it sounds the same, the mids seem a lil more pronounced (which I like) - possibly due to the midbass being closer than the other ones (just barely)... the high end was alot clearer when I was done to, probally due to removing the grill cloth from the equation... since grill cloth introduce a padding around 12-13khz...it is definetely more detailed on the left side where the rebuild is...
I hope to have the other one done by September. Unfortunately I have to cut the real wood in the shop (cross cutting) - i dont have the equipment here.
I am starting a work shop, I finished that speaker at home. I bought a Jigsaw, hand sander, and a router (THANKS MADMAX!!) and finished it up. I also hate hand nailing, nail guns are much better, I hand nailed the baffles to the speaker... applying the baffles were actually complicated and I'm surprised it turned out like it did...
I had to put a frame around the edges of the speaker, then slide a piece of MDF in this frame, then I had to put the top piece over that - so I am definetely surprised at how well it all turned out to tell you the truth....
Thanks for the comments!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
