How many , have , do or will never clean the lens of their DVD/cd player(s)? and what do you use ?

I was reading the manual of my marantz and it states to have it cleaned after 1000 hrs of use and to have it done by a technician.
Not sure if 1- I want to have it away for x amount of time for a "specialist" to clean it. 2- pay to have it done. Does anyone use one of those dvd's with a lil cleaning brush on them ?

I use a 35mm camera lens air-bulb/brush. Make sure it's a good quality one with soft bristles. But, I haven't had to use it in over 10 years.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I used to have constant skipping and freezing problems with the Samsung DVD players I had. One of thier technicians suggested using the DVD disk cleaners, and another one told me you should never use them because they do more harm than good.

This was one of the reasons why I purchased more than one player, the thinking being by dividing thier usage and not "overworking one" if there is such a thing, I can avoid running into the cleaning issue. This may not be practical for some, so I am also interested in hearing what some of use to clean your drives.

I use one from ALLSTOP (Ultra 8 lens cleaner) . It has 8 very tiny , very soft brushes and has worked quite well for me and only take about 15 seconds to clean a unit . I own two , one for my computer drives and another for my home dvd/cd players . I use the one for the computer about every 4 months due to all my fans in my rigs ; and use the other maybe once a year on the home audio .
My older Carver tube cd played I have had a very bad skipping problem and I used the Allstop on it and the problem was cured immediately .
So far Ive never had any problems as a result of using the Allstop cleaner .
The "Ultra 8 lens cleaner" is a little hard to find now-a-days .
