ivory billed woodpecker found!!

Most might not think this is a big deal, but as a biologist this is huge. After being considered extinct for 60 years, the Ivory Billed Woodpecker has been rediscorvered in Arkansas! It is the largest woodpecker in North America and one of the largest in the world. Lets hope it thrives with protection.........

    Seriously, that's very cool when a species thought to have been extinct shows up. Maybe they were just keeping a low profile!
    BTW, why were they thought to have been extinct? Were they hunted for their ivory? Seems to me you'd have to pick a lot of peckers to get anything substantial :D

    they were under the protection of the beavers... kinda like in Dolittle 2.

    An ivory **** that needs protection (I suggest Trojan) and a beaver.
    If...
    Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.

    they disappeared because the old growth forests they depended on were almost wiped out. Originally their habitat consisted of 20 million acres of forest, and that was reduced to only about 4 million acres in seperate patches. Its rough country....very swampy and bug infested, so its not suprising they managed to stay hidden for so long.

    You're going beaver hunting , err... protecting, in Arkansas. I could be wrong but unless you have family there, you'll have a hard time getting a beaver to prtoect.
