When ever we watch movies in DTS I find the bass over whelming and to much to the point it makes the viewing not pleasurable. Does any one esle find this ?

There maybe a sub level setting for the DTS mode in your AVR so you can reduce that Bass problem. :)

    Willow,

Explain your setup a little better, just how you use it for HT only or a mix 2 channel / HT via DD or DTS. If you use sub in 2 channel mode? What is the AVR being used?

I find the bass in DTS very enjoyable, acutally its one of the big reasons I use the DTS when available, about the only one I ev remember having to turn down a bit was Underworld which had a very hot soundtrack.

Not sure why my gear would affect it :

    Mains rti8
    center csi3
    rears rti4
    sub energy s10.2
    marantz dv 4200 dvd
    yamaha rxv 540.

all speakers set to small, sub turn down to -15 as it's to loud for my size of room.

As far as how I use it ?
I do use the sub in 2ch music (stereo) with the 8's.

Every time there is a massive bass scene in DTS i have to turn down the master volume (I hate playing with volume when watching a movie)

Is there a difference between DD and DTS as far as Sub Bass level?

I've read somewhere, can't remember where, that there is a difference in the reference level between DTS and DD. It was something like 6db.
Most receivers have a memory specific to each input/decoding method. My denon remembers that DTS should be set lower and I don't have to fiddle with it.

I guess my receiver ( I have known for while is sub-par) for what I need it to do. I don't have that option.

Did you end up selling both your 8's ?

Still trying to sell one. Its on Ebay, but reserve is not met. I'll keep it for the bedroom before I'll sell it for less than $140.

in comparison, DTS is 10db louder on the LFE than DD. The rears are cranked 3db as well. Not to mention the less compression in general for better overall SQ.

My denon let's me adjust all levels on every decoder so when I go to DTS, it's at -5 instead of -3 on DD tracks. Look into your Yammie, it might have it and you just didn't know it. Plus, if it's already at -15, you might wanna just turn the sub down and not that much on the receiver. Might help sound a bit.
