Just a couple recent examples:

#1 - How not to sell a CARVER C-9 SONIC HOLOGRAM GENERATOR

Pretty much the whole story in one line, "I have no idea what this does".

At least he's brief and probably honest... One of the better ads in this bunch.

#2 - How not to sell a frank SINATRA 16 orig capital master MFSL box set

First start the auction at $475, within striking distance of record high with the opening bid.

Say "the NM vinyl appears unplayed"... unplayed vinyl looks mint, not near mint.

Followed by "i did make a long, very light narrow inaudible (to me) scuff on one side of one disc with a soft plastic rounded corner of a discwasher fluid bottle as it escaped the pad while inspecting"... So now one LP is no longer even NM.

Followed by "time permitting, i might play them all once to record to CD-R for myself"... so now appearances aside, he's selling a played set.

Followed by "the GeoDisk: i'm keeping it unless you want to add $80 to the final auction price". First, new Geodisks are only $50 direct from MFSL (not that that would prevent ebayers from paying more), but remember that opening bid amount...

But what do you expect... he's from Maryland...

Last, but not least...

#3 - How not to sell a SHURE stylus V15II turntable V15 type II super track

Entire text: "Here is a nice SHURE model V15 type II cartridge/stylus in unknown working condition--I have never tested this item so it will be sold as is as found. Please look at the photos ad email with?? Insurance is recommended."

Based upon this picture, I can take a pretty good guess at the condition of the stylus...
More later,
Tour...

So far only te MFSL Sinatra set has finished... with zero bidders. Only the V-15 II has gotten a bid.

    And we now have:

#3b - How not to sell a New Vintage Shure Hi Track M91ED Cartridge Stylus

Proudly displaying your cartridge resting on its stylus. I guess he added the weight of the mounting screws to demonstate just how strong the cantilever is...

What does this do? What is a sonic hologram generator?

Sonic Holography is Bob Carver's approach for cancelling interaural crosstalk. He does it actively via the electronics in the C-9 or in many of his pre-amps. It works with any standard speaker.

A guy named Matthew Polk took a different route. A passive approach using additional drivers and cross-over elements, and created the SDA's.

those examples are kind of comical.

I have been having trouble recently selling my goods on Ebay. mostly very low end electronics.. but even those I used to be able to sell. Is no one buying stuff these days or what?

ANyone else having trouble selling stuff on the bay? I wonder if the fee increase is scaring buyers away?

Whoa. A boobshelf speaker? Nice pair of tweeters you have there.

The strangest thing is that this guy has spelled it wrong in four completed auctions.

As for bidding before looking at the pictures... What's the rush?

If the cartridge is good, $10 for a V15-II ain't bad. Of course then you're looking at 5 to 15 times that for a stylus for generics to NOS Shures respectively.

    Skynut,
Interaural crosstalk has to do with the time delay associated with sound reaching both ears. Example: a horn honks to the right of you. Your right ear hears it first, followed by your left ear. It's how you locate the origin of a sound.

With conventional speakers, you can locate them both. It's why the soundstage of a stereo pair is confined to be no wider than the separation of the speakers.

Cancel the crosstalk so that the left ear cannot hear things to the right of you, and vice versa, and you can no longer locate the speakers and the soundstage becomes wider than the speakers.

    Capice?
