I need some help

Installed 400.4, mmc5250, mmc6500, and a new head unit in my truck today.

when the h/u comes on the amp flashes power and thermal lights,
the power light does not stay on, and there is no sound, i dont think the amp is being turned on by remote wire.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

It sounds like your amp is staying in protect mode so you have a wire shorting out or its running too low an impedance.

If youre only running those 4 speakers then thats not the problem.

Check all your power wires. Make sure nothing is shorting. My first stop would be the ground. Try another location and see if this works. If not then check the power wire to see that its not shorted out or stripped on something.

It could also be your remote wire from the head unit. If its not getting power it wont turn the amp on.

It could also be one of your RCA's is shorting out. Unhook the front channels and see if it comes on. If not then unhook the rears. If neither works then its probably not your RCA's as I doubt all 4 would be shorted.

Try these and let us know. If nothing works then we'll look further.

My wild guess would be bad wiring on the speaker side of things. Check everything between the amp and the speakers.

turned out to be the ground

I put it in more contact with the body and not so much the ground, and it fired right up

Thanks to Macleod, it is people like this who make these forums work.

By the way the mmc6500's and the mmc5250's really sound great powered off the 400.4, now all i need is some subs.

Thanks again I really appreciate it.
