Time to rant. feel free to rant along with me as well as helpful tips or info. First i win an auction (by the way no more ebay for me either) for a Denon receiver it arrives and the front panel is busted.i contact the seller and he is going to work with me to help get it resolved.ok it is a month later and ups still hasnt setteled the claim yet. should i be entitled to the ammount it was insured for or the ammount to repair it. if it is repairable. the little clip is busted no big deal but further inspection that the face is busted and the new clip i ordered cannot fasten to it. it needs a front panel replaced. parts are on back order. now ups wants an estimate to settle. ok i contact denon they have the worst customer service ever. no help they tell me to fax a page for an ra number. now what do i ship it back to be estimated and fixed only to have it get damaged again. it came in the original box and packing.so i am still waiting on that claim. yesterday my over priced pair of fx1000s arrive smashed on the top. another calim.i filed a claim so i will see what ups says but i have a bad feeling they will think i am scamming. Two high priced items wont look good. i have detailed pics however i think the nastiness is about to begin. so far no reply from the seller to find out if he insured them as i asked. the fx1000s didnt come in original box they came in a cheap thin box. Any advise on how to speed up ups.

run in, guns a blazin.....luckily i have never had a problem with UPS....i''m sorry you had such a problem with them, that really sounds frustrating especially because im sure you were excited about receiving your new toys all week. good luck with settling

You're most likely SOL, without original packaging. My wife hates the boxes all over the house, but I learned my lesson years ago on shipping insurance claims, and resale values. That second auction for the 1000s may fall through and the seller may deal with you on your pair. Cross your fingers.
If all else fails, make custom cabinets with the parts at hand. I'd make them a little shorter, but wider. They might even look better.
Good luck,

Dude, that totally blows. I know you have been trying to get those speaks for a while and now they are busted. As for the amp, that blows too. It sucks when you are all excited about new toys and then you can't even play with them when they come in.
I would fight like hell and not give up. Just don't get real loud right away or you might piss off the wrong people and screw yourself.Skynut

Yep, tell me about it. I gave up trying to get money from UPS when they drop boxes off the back of their trucks or whatever they do.
I also gave up giving them my money. I always ship FedEx Ground and when I'm buying, I specify that I want FedEx or no deal. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
Sorry to read about the f/x's... Had a ringside seat when you bagged them (your price was on high side, but not a record).
Problem you are going to have is "the thin box". If the f/x's were not packed properly, UPS will wash their hands of any responsibility post haste...
So get after the seller (who's moving, so act fast). Ask for his contact info from him, and if he's not forthcoming, request it from ebay (simple on-line form). If he's uncooperative, you're left with taking it to ebay/ PayPal for help and since you did get the speakers, albeit damaged, they will only help so much.
Good Luck...
As for future repeats... I used to think FedEx was a cure, but they drop boxes, too.
The best path is to discuss the packaging of your item with the Seller until you're convinced that he is going to do it right... then pay...More later,

I've had poor dealings with both fedex and ups. Fedex actually paid for the damaged item... TO THE FREAKIN EBAY SELLER WHO KEPT THE MONEY AND DISAPPEARD FROM THE PLANET!!! They said sorry, it is up to the seller whether or not he feels like passing the money to me.
UPS paid also but it took awhile and I had to turn in a nicely prepared professional looking report with 20 pics and complete explanation of the whole process. I must have faxed it to them 5 times. I think they got tired of me abusing their fax maching.
I guess I still prefer UPS.
BTW, to your original question. If you are willing to give up the merchandise I think they should cover the cost of it. To repair they should cover professional repair.

When I was dealing with UPS, I was always told that they had to deal with the original shipper as well. Any payout would go to the shipper of record. Were you the shipper in the case were you did get money from UPS?For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
The only sure way to avoid shipping damage is to buy local. That may limit your selection, but at least here in the Chicago Metro area I have found that if I wait long enough everything I look for eventually comes up for sale. What really suprises me is the number of people who refuse to let you pickup items. I won't bid on anything that people won't let me pickup in person. I figure their either trying to make money off inflated shipping, or they don't whant to face you knowing that they are selling you a piece of crap. I even started asking about pickups on items that I know I will ship, just to see how confident people are in their items.
I was also lucky enough one time to find an auction ending in St. Louis at the same time we were going to be there on vacation. My wife thought I was insane, but hey, I always wanted a NAK tape deck and without the shipping it was really good deal. It was a little strange making a cash transaction on a street corner in the middle of University City but those are the kinds of experiences what make life interesting. Good thing she wasn't with me when I went to pick up a pair of speakers from what looked like every crack house ever shown on "Cops". -

With UPS I was the shipper. Maybe they always pay the shipper. With fedex ground shipments pay to the buyer and air pays to the shipper. I might have mixed up that last one but I think I got it correct.Vinyl, the final frontier...

I ship for a living, the best thing you can do (I know it's too little, too late) is to have the shipper photograph the boxes prior to shipment, then you photograph them upon arrival if you see obvious damage.
Photographic evidence is VERY powerful. I photograph damaged shipments, and it only takes 1 phone call and 1 email w/pic attached to resolve the problem.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

That's your problem. You must double box with UPS.

The cabinent is the issue. i ordered a new yesterday. lucky for me they had one in stock. the part that sucked is that they were truly in mint condition other than the huge dent ups put in it. not a scratch. they wil be back to mint on wednesday.thank goodness for the polk discount. i fixed it a little cheaper.

Sorry about your troubles. Purchasing like new speakers and now a new cabinet to make them right again? xtra$$
It really does suck that some package handlers seem to have no respect for or a care about a package they know someone has an investment in and is depending on them (all of them along the chain) to deliver it unharmed. Maybe too many of them hate their jobs and show it by venting on the shipments and not giving a rat's **** about the outcome. "F- it! I don't have to do a good job that's what insurance is for!"
One of the truths told here is in fact that original boxes really don't cut it. The shipper MUST double box.
Good luck with the claims. -
Fedex driver dropped a speaker from ~5 right in front of me in my driveway. The freaking thing makes it all the way from CA to NH and this idiot destroys it in my driveway. Working with Fedex and the ebay seller was a joke (never again). My only recourse is not to use Fedex at work anymore. I know for a fact the **** Fedex gave me on those speakers has cost them many 10s of thousands of dollars more than the price of the speakers. I guess its true, what comes around goes around.
