Monitor 50's as surround speakers?

I have 4 Polk Monitor 50's connected to my Harmon Kardon AVR 135. Can 2 speakers be connected to the front out? Is it a waste to use the 50's as surround speakers? What setting should I watch tv on? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm not that bright.
Thanks,
Thanks,

... and you're the first to admit it... may start a trend... LOL.
I think what you are asking is can you run all 4 of your 50's on your AVR's 2 main/ front channels... yes? Assuming I got it right, the answer is yes and no...
The "no" part would be if you wired them in parallel, i.e., separate pairs of wires to both left channel speakers and both right channel speakers. Wired this way the 50's would present a dangerously low load for your AVR to handle, and overheating would be likely.
The "yes" part would be if you wired the 50's in series, i.e., a single wire from your AVR to the "+" post of Mon 50 #1, then a single wire from #1's "-" post to the "+" post of Mon 50 #2... etc.
The question I have is, "why would you want to put both up front?"
Having the same speaker all around is ideal for multi-channel, SACD music. A bit of a waste perhaps for DVD's, but not a criminal waste.
AS for the TV setting... I don't know your AVR, so I can't say. Is there one that sounds better to you?

Thanks for the information. The reason for both on the front is music. Thanks again.
Keith.
PS, what would you recommend for rear speakers?
