I checked out the Onkyo and it seems like a great buy, I'm most likely going to get this receiver, though J and R has it for 8 dollars cheaper with shipping compared to the onkyo factory direct. Which do yall think I should go for? I'll probably get it in about half a month with my speakers from fry's. Hopefully they'll still be running the same deals.
Thanks,

My money would be on the Onkyo. (I am biased though)
Find the lowest price and go for it, I have yet to be ripped off when I take the time to do some research, actually I have yet to be ripped off.Skynut

yes, now i'm going to move from the pioneer to the refurbished oknyo possiably an extended warranty from j and R. Warranty is where they always get ya...but never know. Get insurance when you rent a car?
Now that most of the speakers I've setteled on (R50 r/l, r 15's rear.), axed the sub, and now the receiver is setteled, as well as building projects.
I still have questions on the wiring for the two r15's to be hooked up as the center speaker. How, and where can i get the necessary objects
Thanks,

Good question, I read somewhere else that you can wire them in series and not have any ill effects. I would post a new question about this.
As I said I run a second amp and I split my pre-amp out for the center to both amp inputs. Then just hooked up my speakers.
Apparently there are several ways to wire 2 speakers into one output, If you ask this group in a new thread they probably have good answers how to do this.Skynut

CC has the Monitor series CS1 for $159.99. Think about it; sell the extra R15s and put the cheese toward the CS1 center.Main Set-up: 55" 120 hz Samsung LN55B650, Onkyo TX-SR806, Emotiva XPA-5, Emotiva XPA-2, PS3 Slim, Sony BDP-S560, Apple TV (160g), Panamax M5300-PM, Polk Audio CSi5, RTi10's, FXi3's, RTi4's, and SVS PB12 Plus

Hey im a college student as well working with a limited budget. also i use the Pioneer VSX-D914 Reciever and i am very happy with it, i know alot of people have kinda been trashing it but for the money i think its a good buy.
Right now in my dorm room im using a setup of 2 R30s as fronts, from Fry's $50 each is a steal! even though right now in teh dorm i dont have room for the rest of my setup at home i run two more R30s as surrounds and i was struggling for a long time to find a good center to match it. this thread i posted about a month ago should be very helpfull if you decide to stick with the R series.

Also im using a PSW303 sub in teh rooma nd it doesnt seem to bother the neighbors much at all. i got it used for $150. good deal.
As for my center its up to you to decide but take a look at the link i sent you, i ended up going with a pair of R20s, recomended highly above the R15s, as they have the same drivers as the R50s and R30s in a smaller box, but if you have the R15s already thouse shoudl work fine. I use one as a center and the otehr as a rear center for 6.1 at home. it sounds exceptional.
Also heard of problems with using two speakers as 1 front center, you might be better off just using 1 of your R15s. the pressure from your reciever wont be as high if you use two.
Hope this helps! Good luck.
P.S. the R30s arent that big, you could prolly transport them w/o too much trouble, the R50s are a bit bigger but not much.Terps Swimming!

Thanks for the input,
I'm just gonna go with a onkyo sr502, though thanks for the defense for the pioneer, this one is just 20 more than the Pioneer I wanted anyway.
I'm not gonna get a sub, but just going to use two r50's instead. though I know it's not a direct replacement, it's a good start and I'll add a sub later.
For the center, the CS1 will be my choice. Found it for 130 so this will be my most expensive speaker, but it should handle it's job well.
i actually went to check the r30's out at CC and yeah not big at all, the r50's are 3 feet so I should be able to fit them in my car no prob. I even heard them being called as "half towers" which kinda makes sense in comparison to all the other towers they had there.
Thanks again,
