Yes thats right, i said Pioneer. I have an old (And I mean OLD!!) Pioneer SX-1280 (180wpc) that is currently not working-turns on, one light lights up but, that second click-the one that seems to turn on the amp (you know, the click that takes just a sec). Anyone know wat the cause may be? Its really buggin me to listen through an older Kenwood 80wpc reciever when I have the beast right under it.

Well, I have limited experience in this area, but...

That "click" that you should hear a couple of seconds after you turn it on is the muting relay that disconnects the speakers until the electronics stabilize. It probably also serves as the "protect" relay and should shut the speakers off if a certain amount of DC is detected at the outputs--- if something's wrong internally or the amp's clipping, etc. So that's a difficult problem to diagnose without actually looking at the receiver. Could be the relay itself or could be a component problem inside, causing it to go into "protect" mode.

You say one light lights up. Is that a normal condition for your receiver, or do you mean that only one light, out of several that should, lights up?

Have you verified that no speaker wires are shorted or any other problems that would force a protect mode?

No speakers are hooked up to it. And, the light is like a backgeound light, not a source indicator or anything-just lights up the display. Thanx for the help-just seeing if it was easily user serviced-itll probly be a beast to pay for but, the SQ is worth it
