Is it true that the bigger sized a sub is the less treble it plays or is it when the sub has alot of rms watts that it plays little treble. i am a little worried that my sub will have too much deep bass and not enough treble. I have a 15 " Polk/MOMO sub that can play up to 400 RMS watts and 800 peak watts. Do you guys think it will have too much bass????????? Help me out here??

Subs dont play treble. Regardless of size. Normally they wont even play above 200 Hz.

The difference between a 15 and a 10 would be the bigger sub could get a little lower but it would sound a little sloppier. A 12 usually has the best of both worlds. Itll get plenty low but still sound tight.

As far as being too much bass, I doubt it. That would depend more on your tuning and tweaking.

XBL^2 subs can play up to like 1kHz and more, but you wouldn't want them to. They would really pull your sound to the rear of the car. That's what you have low-pass crossovers for. Your sub will usually be crossed over somewhere between 60-120 Hz. The amount of treble coming from a sub is a moot point.

when it's properly crossed-over, treble from a sub means distortion... you specifically do NOT want treble from a sub...

and i've always been amazed at the prosound cabinets that have this huge woofer and a horn tweeter, and together they get 20-20 sound (or close enough for live stuff...)!

Hell, thats the way the old MTX Road Thunder boxes worked. You had a box with a 8" sub and a piezo tweeter in it. They sounded ok.

They made a box with a 10, piezo and a 3" mid which sounded better. But these things were made to be loud. Sound quality wasnt a big priority.

A buddy of mine had 2 of the 10 boxes in the back seat of his 71 Monte Carlo powered by a Sherwood 240 watt amp. We would listen to the first song on Reing in Blood by Slayer and about halfway thru there is a badass and fast double bass riff with no other music. We would turn it up and watch quartes bounce around the top of the car.

Thats childs play now but for a bunch of 16 year olds it was cool as hell.

Yes but back in 1989, there werent too many 3000 watt amps around, at least none that I knew of.

Back then I didnt know squat (no internet ;) ) so I learned from the Circuit City salesmen. That Sherwood 240 and a Coustic 460 were the biggest amps they had. If I remember right, that Coustic was 65x2 at 4 ohms which probably made it 90x2. Coustic amps were pretty underrated back then. I still have a Coustic 360 that although its rated at 35x2 its much more powerful than my old Pioneer 50x2.
