CS300 Timbre Match Question-LAST ONE!

I'm still trying to match those Monitor 10Bs to a Center Speaker, and I promise this will be the last question I ask about matching models.

For those who are interested, the information I have is as follows:

The current Polk CSi5 is a match for the Monitor 10B.
If you want to go with something older, used (ok, cheaper), then the CS350, CS400, CSi350, and CSi400 are all good matches that have been tried and approved by members of this forum.

Thanks to markeric, rscamer, Tour2ma, jcaut and others who have offered their advice and experiences.

Now I have a chance to buy a CS300. Based on exhaustive research using the forum search engine, it appears to be a little know model that only came out for a year in the early 90's. I can't find out much more than that.

My question is what kind of timbre match will the CS300 be for my 10Bs? Since it is older I would think it is closer in timbre to the 10Bs, but I know in the speaker world what should be is not always the same as what is.

Again, thanks for your patient education of this newly rediscovered Polk enthusiast (with a budget)

Greg

The CS300 is very similar to the CS400. It uses the trilaminate dome tweeter, like the CS400, so it should be a viable solution for your center channel dilemma. They are usually cheaper than a CS400 too.

I'm using the CSi40 with my 10B's and I find it to be a excellent match.

I replied in your original other thread.

Which came before the other other thread.

Which came before this other thread.

Other than the above I've nothing to add.... ;)

Thanks for the info. And the sarcasm. And for broadcasting the eBay thread just in case anyone else is now interested! :D

I really do appreciate all your help, and the rest is just part of what you get when you throw yourself out front to try to get information. Like getting snickered at for asking questions in class. Of course that worked out pretty well for me, too.

I do apologize for the prolific thread creation. Believe me, I thought hard about it before starting a new one. I just figured a) asking the same question in the original thread (and the original original thread) was ignored for 2 days, b) this thread was regarding a different , relatively unknown speaker, and c) I believe it is more helpful to those who come after me seeking similar information through the search engines.

That's why I summarized my findings here in the beginning and promised it would be the last thread [on THIS subject of course! ;) ] I figured if I had trouble finding archived info on this, maybe the next guy will find it easier with the specific thread titles I chose.

Yeah, I'm a newby to this particular forum. But unlike many of you, I fell in love with the early Polk, before the commercialization and expansion that comes to all successful companies. I still remember saving up my pay as a young Lieutenant stationed in Korea so I could take advantage of the good deals in the overseas PX, going in to buy the smaller Polks and finding a floor model pair (with a light scratch) of Monitor 10Bs available for only slightly more, deciding on the spot to forgo a night of debauchery in Itaewon in favor of buying the upgrade, getting those babies home to my tiny BOQ and connecting them to my original Pioneer A/V receiver (with Dolby Surround & No Center Channel!), cranking up the Steely Dan records and "Top Gun" for me and my buds, the sense of pride, the sense of home....... aw I'm getting misty just thinking about it. Perhaps the greatest decision I ever made, passing up a night of getting drunk and laid for years of listening pleasure!

Sorry for waxing verbose there. Probably should have saved that for the "Polk Love Stories" Forum. What the heck, its Saturday morning and my favorite cartoons haven't come on yet-nothing but time on my hands! And I probably deserve some abuse for being away so long and leaving my prized Polks toiling in relative obscurity in the name of estrogen-laced aesthetics. Funny, but the 10Bs and that original Pio receiver may be the only thing I still own from that era (unless you count the scar from that drunk bargirl catfight I broke up in Tong Du Chon.)

Anyway, I'm off to buy a Polk Center Channel which I have no doubt will blow my socks off and hopefully provide well matched sound to my newly re-valued Monitor 10Bs.

Thanks again, and I'll be sure to report back once I've completed my quest!

    Greg

PS Should I start a new thread for my report? :p

Buy another pair of Monitors 10Bs... put them tweeter to tweeter horizontal below (or above) your TV...

Thats the biggest center channel yall ever see.
