Layout Design...

Yep, I am making this layout for a member (will remain nameless unless he wishes to say it himself) -

But I am just looking for suggestions from the regular people that give advice on it for me...

The layout itself isnt done, the title of the company isnt at the top, and there is no audio in the right corner (going to put speaker, source, receiver or amp in the right corner...

Just looking for opinions on the overall design/concept...

    Yes ;)

The blue rectangle is the menu, the top is the banner, tan is the 'content'

this is how I see it so hopefully I do not offend.....some clouds for the sky> if that is sky, I do not care for the colors, the trees behind the dark blue screen may be better with a grayish color, the peach, pink is distracting. I do like the layout though and I am sure it can be fine tuned

Clouds are a bit harder to put into perspective, don't want to destract from what is going up in the banner portion (name, audio equipment) - this is for a future audio store...

Gray dosnt really fit in with the overall design I dont think....I can give that a shot though...

Background color was chosen by the person this is for...

No offense intended, but I think you need to work on blending the background in a little. The cutout between the peach and the background is severe and distracting. But that's without anything else on the page...

too white on my screen now. How bout trying the peach again and do a light gray screen if you don't mind. I know it will look tacky with the baby blue but I'm curious

Unfortunately, changing the 'screen' isnt as easy as the background was to change...

How about... a grey background? lol

I think I'll have to wait to see how this looks with content...

But I like the white better myself...

    Sid,
A brief lesson in marketing, not that I'm an expert by any means....

Keep it simple and remember what you are trying to do with a website. Entice a prospective buyer with your product or service. Keep it simple and focus on the product. A graphics heavy or overly colorfull image may look cool, but that doesn't mean a damn thing if it doesn't make a sale. Take a look at your local yellow pages. The idea behind yeloow page advertising is to get people to call your business and inorder to do that they need to see your phone number figured promonently in the ad. The ads that scream at you about their product lines, budget pricing, largest inventory, etc., don't mean squat if you have to hunt for a tiny little number hidden somewhere in the ad. Most people will simply move on to the next ad. Think about some of the sites you've been to. If they are overly busy you lose interest. Time is precious, people won't waste it trying to figure out what you are all about.

Who is your customer and what do you want them to do? That's the questions that you need to answer before working on the layout.

The axe was intended for tree. :)

Now that you've mentioned the name of the business the tree makes sense. Have you considered using a black and white image of a tree, perhaps smaller? How about something like this...

    No offense little bro...

    I like franks tree better.
    It`s not so busy (distracting)

    Too many colors/demensions..

Unless you had the tree on the right hand side.

Maybe if you keep your tree on the left and put the menu on the right...

I think your tree would look better then..IMO

    Big Frank..Bringin' the Wood!!:D

Sid, I don't think you'll like the current "woody" in Black & White with the blue overlay. Try it and I think you'll see what I mean.

I'll report back in a bit, once we get a logo, name, audio products in the thing, and maybe a 'fake' layout of the website

Also, don't go with translucent if you're gonna put buttons on top of it, it looks better.
    Also, do you know CSS?
