Nad cd player

I'm looking for a good cd player. I've got a lot of Nad stuff already. How is the quality on a Nad 5240? The other unit i'm considering is a Harman Kardon FL 8385(changer,yuk!) that has the Burr brown Dacs. This unit will be on my dedicated 2 channel system.

    NAD C521BEE is one of the better NAD players on the market at the moment

    Whatever you do, don't buy an HK changer, period. That is, unless you like, hassles, headaches, and repairs.

    Just as I thought. Changers-bad! The Nad 5240 on ebay looks to be in budget after my latest additions. The C521BEEe would be nice, but not at this time. Right now my player is a cheap Sony DVD player that has a habit of defaulting to the crappy surround sound defaults.

    sucks. maybe think about adding an external DAC to a so so player... just a thought. DAC's are hot right now. :cool:

    true and I considered that but they are built like TANKS and sound sooo sweet.

    If you want a changer, look at the Marantz 4300. Very good reviews/build quality and on Ebay NIB for $129. Also the NAD C541i single disc player would be good.

    Agreed. I saw one on Audiogon this week for $450 which is a great deal on a CL-15.

    There are places that still service Cal Audio products.

    I bought a CL-15 on Audiogon about a month ago. They are rarely for sale for a reason. Very analog sounding and yes built like a tank. Considered by many to be some of the best cd players ever made. I haven't had any issues with mine.

    Thank you all for your input. I think I will sit tight for a little while and wait for the right one to appear. It would appear that a bigger budget is in order ($250-$500) for a good used unit.

    plus, even if you get the fluke one that DOES work, it sounds like butt.

    Found a NAD c521i. The unit looks like brand new. Now, as soon as Sid's old NAD pre-amp arrives, I'll be all NAD!!!
