Mini Monitor Amazement!

I took a chance on a pair of EPOS ELS-3 mini-monitors that were reasonably priced on Audiogon. I had listened to these a little bit on another system, so I knew they sounded pretty good. I needed a set of mini-monitors for my bedroom system in my new place. I have been listening to these for a few days, and they are pretty amazing little speakers. Very clear, very open, great soundstage, they don't dig real deep, but for vocals, they are much more musical than my RTi4's. I have a set of LSi7's here that I repaired a scratch in the wood and they are waiting for their owner to pick them up. The ELS-3's have the same tonal qualities as the 7's. Pretty amazing little monitors!

It's known to be a great speaker, you just caught the wave. Excellent bookie.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Somehow the EPOS brand had escaped my attention up to now. I'm curious as to how the rest of the line sounds.

Creek owns EPOS, if that will give an indication of the sound quality of their speakers.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for a dealer that stocks them when I am travelling on business! I just set mine up on Target FS 40" stands tonight, about 6' apart, slightly toed in, and when driven by a Parasound P/HP-850/HCA-1000A combo, they sound fantastic. They are finally getting broken in. These are a pretty amazing little (with the emphasis on little!) speaker.

It didn't come in under the $1000 magic number that we have been throwing around, but it's going to be a pretty sweet little system for the bedroom:

    EPOS ELS-3 speakers $250
NAD C720BEE receiver $530 (incl. shipping)
    Onkyo DX-606 CDP $110 (factory refurb/w shipping)
    Signal Cable Single
    Speaker Cables $74 (incl. shipping)
    AudioQuest Sidewinder
    Interconnects $28
    Target FS Steel stands
    for speakers $99 (incl. shipping)
    Tripp Lite Isobar Ultra
    8 surge/conditioner $57 (incl. shipping)

    Total: $1,148

I have the remote control receiver, CD changer (required!), and sweet little monitors that don't take up a lot of room. Plus, with the second zone feature on the NAD receiver ......... tunes in the bathroom while I am getting ready for work! The GF is going to be so impressed :D

Nice! How do the tweeters compare to your LSi7? I love the Vifa.

The LSi7's belonged to a friend of mine, however I was amazed at how close the ELS-3's were as far as tonal qualities. I would almost rate the high end of the ELS-3's as a little more open and airy. Now the ELS-3's are mini-monitors and there is no doubt the 7's have more presence and room filling capacity. But for less than 1 LSi7 costs at retail, the ELS-3's are pretty amazing.

Congrats on the find. I have been wanting to try a set of those for a while now but just haven't had the chance yet. I have heard from a few people that the 12.2 model is also quite amazing for the $.

Question: Would you consider the Epos to be a little more forward and open in comparison to the LSi7s??? I have had a couple pair of 7s and they are just slightly too laid back for my taste.

cmy330go - I would rate the ELS-3's as more open and airy than the LSi7's, and definetely a little more forward with the soundstage. I got my NAD C720BEE receiver today, and although it has only been running a couple of hours and the ELS-3's aren't quite broke in yet, this little system sounds incredible! I couldn't be more pleased, and my GF is really po'd because I got her Polk RT15's for her bedroom system and she can really tell the difference! I can't wait for my Signal Cable speaker cable to arrive so I can add it!

When I am in IA, I am out in the Collins/Maxwell/Nevada area. I went to high school at Bondurant.
