I expect delivery of an LSI15, LSI C, and 2 LSI FX next week. I am also expecting a sony da5000 reciever next week. I will be hooking this system up to a Klipsch 12 inch downfiring sub.
I have tried searching for the answer to this before asking but I really don't know what the connections of the LSI15 in the back are. In other words, trying to make the most of my sub do I hook up a splitter to my LFE output of the receiver and have it go to the Klipsch and the other end to the LS15 front? Or do I just wire them up independently. I do have avia and an spl meter to tune things up. Any suggestions or point me to a thread would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

You can't split the LFE and go to the 15s as they don't have amps in them, they are passive speakers and the LFE output is line level, not speaker level. I hope this makes sense to you.

Your options for hooking your powered sub up rests on your subs inputs. If it has speaker inputs, you can run the sub from your main (L&R) Channels (Speakers wires) and let the sub send the upper ranges to your 15s. This may work well for music and some HT use. The downside is that digital sources can't use the LFE output for this type of hookup and control is limited to the volume control on your sub and bass for movies may be limited.

The other option uses the LFE output from your AVR and allows you to control the sub output on the fly from your remote. This allows the greatest flexibilty and may work best for digital formats like Dolby Digital and DTS movies.

The LFE is becoming the universal hookup with digital sources, but Polk Audio actually suggests the first for their satellite/sub setups.

Try each and see for yourself.

Oh yeah, welcome to ClubPolk and Polk ownership, and enjoy your stay. There are alot of great people on the forum.

I would recommend hooking your sub up to the LFE output and your LSi15's up to your front speaker outputs. Set your crossover at about 80hz for all channels.

(this is just a recomendation - try all the combinations you can think of and have fun with it)

Many LSi owners feel that getting the best from their speakers requires an external amplifier. If you feel the sound is not quite what you want, you may think of this as a future upgrade.

You are building a great system. Enjoy it and welcome to club polk.

Thanks guys sounds like what I thought it would be. I will hook-up the LFE to the Klipsch and just wire up the LSI 15 speaks to the front channel. This is a complete overhaul of my old Jbl speakers and yamaha receiver that my daughter will now inherit. I am so pumped about the stuff getting here next week.:)

Try setting your main speakers to small when using your sub. A number of us here have found that even with tower mains, the mids and highs are cleaner when the lowest of bass is removed from them. I tend to use them small for movies, but turn off my sub and set them to large (full range) when 2 channel stuff is needed.

You may have different findings with your setup and room, but that is part of why the AVRs have such great flexibility.

    Cheers,

    DG

Wow just hooked up the rear and center speakers along with the new sony receiver and the place just rocks. I changed the crossover to 80hz and the old jbl speakers in front even sound better. Can't wait till the LSI 15's show up next tuesday!

Since my daughter will be inheriting my old system I am looking at replacing my sub. Seems like people here have recomended the Hsu and the svs subs. Don't really want to spend anymore than 800 bucks for a sub. Any suggestions??

How large is your room? (LxWxH) also include any ajoining rooms that cannot be closed off.

Also - what kind of sub do you have now and what do or don't you like about it. (depth, volume, structural damage, etc...)

Michael I have a Klipsch KSW-12 sub. I didn't say I didn't like it but thought it should go with the old system to my daughter who is inheriting the old Jbl surrounds and Yamaha receiver. I think what I am going to do is wait till the front Polks come and see how things sound. If they sound good I may just get a sub for her. Dunno for sure.. I hate to give away something that is capable and get something else that costs a lot more but I won't be happy with. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places I can just run out and listen to something.

I thought the Klipsch was a little boomy with a lot of reverberations before, then I looked behind the box and the thing was turned all the way up to 12 (maybe the cat did that). I turned it down to 5 and it sounds a lot better. Probably helps with the new receiver and setting the crossover on it. I haven't bothered to tune things with an spl since the fronts aren't here yet.

The room dimensions are roughly about 15 ft by 25 ft but only about 1/2 of it is the home theater. It is a typical 9 ft ceiling. The whole room is ceramic tiled.
I sit around 10 feet from the screen and the sub. Thanks

I own an SVS and love it - that being said I have not heard an HSU personally but they are well spoken of.

This SVS would fit you budget and fill your room nicely I think...it would be best to conctact SVS with your room dimensions prior to purchase - they will gladly help you pick the right one for your situation.
