7.1 is finally starting to take shape!
I recently upgraded from dolby 5.1 to prologic IIx 7.1 and I couldn't believe the improvement in both wraparound effects AND the overall soundfield.
As odd as it may seem- i believe prologic IIx sounds even better than any DTS encoding scheme or Harman's LOGIC-7 - and since it's compatbile with DTS (as with older dolby digital 5.1 software)- it actually improves the sound of DTS soundtracks such as the 6.1 Gladiator or 5.1 Saving Private Ryan by converting it up to 7.1.
Although 5.1 is enough for most applications- i gotta tell ya prologic IIx and 7.1 sounds great in my room- it definetly takes home theater to another level.
I wonder if DOLBY PROLOGIC IIX is the dolby version of THX ULTRA II (which is 7.1 also)?
Front L&R - Rti-4
Center- Csi-3
Side Surrounds- F/X 300i (dipole setting)
Rear Surrounds- F/X 300i (bipole setting)
Subwoofer- Velodyne CHT-10 (80HZ)
Harman Kardon AVR 235 7.1 Receiver/Pre-Amplifier
Adcom GFA-5300 Amp (Front L&R) 80w X 2
Adcom GFA-7300 Amp (Center, S.Surrounds, R.Surrounds) 60w X 5
As good as the Harman is at driving this setup- The Adcom Amps really do make a world of difference. I am amazed.
These amps really shine when driving "SMALL" speakers- really brings out the midrange and highs over the Harman Kardon much to my surprise.
The 5300 really brings to life my 2-channel SACDS as well.
Peace out!

Hi Andrew,
Congratulations on your new 7.1 setup.
I'm pretty sure that they are different surround processes. I think that the THX UltraII just uses a little phase shifting to decorrelate a mono surround back channel into two "channels" that sound a little different. Whereas Dolby Prologic IIx and LOGIC7 processing are actually extracting true stereo surround back channels from the discrete side surround channels.

Larry- those old Polks are hot! are those the SDA'S? I've only heard about them- i've never seen them in person or listened to them.
I bet in my 18Lx12Wx9H room they'd make my ears bleed. -

Hi Andrew,
Thanks.
Yes, there are a few of us that use the vintage SDA's in a home theater. I've quite satisfied with their performance despite their age.
Many, perhap most, of the veteran Polkies here seem to favor the old SDA's even over the new and highly acclaimed LSi series.
My SDA's are only about 4 feet high, the bigger SRS's are close to 6 foot. I've got 220 watts per channel going to them. They should be able to take 500 watts.

i heard they're better than the lsi's too.
yeah those SRS's were the ones I was thinking of- they seem to me to look very similar- the SRS's and the SDA's- but then again- I just got into polk speakers about a year ago. -

Hi Andrew,
The SRS's are SDA's. They are the top of the line, i.e., Signature Reference Series of the Stereo Dimensional Array design.
I had the height wrong. They're only 5'3" tall.
