I have an amp for sale on Epay. It's not getting much love at all. No bids yet.

Today i got in my email box the following email from someone wanting to buy my amp. COOL! read below.

" just viewed your item i,ve been looking for this item all along .i,m interested and would like to buy the item and i,ll pay you in cash via money order with an xtra 80usd as bonus for you to stop the bid for me. i,ll make the payment with my western union account once the payment is made you,ll receive a confirmation email from western union that the payment is made so i,ll like you to ship it as soon as you,ve received the confirmation email cus i,ve already got some good offers from one of my customers whom i sent the infos of your item ,you don,t have to worry about the shipment i,ll handle it with my FEDEX account so send me your name and address for the payment. thanks"

thoughts on this email i received?

I know it's a scam right off the bat. But I wonder how many people get taken by these scams all the time?

I wanna have some fun with this. I'll email back the person. and ask for a shipping address. no post office box. I need and want a house address.

Then i'll tell them i can't ship the item till i have the cash in hand. LOL I know i'll never see any cash from this.

what else should I email them back asking for?

I was talking to my dad a while back about a situation like this. He works for a bank and had a customer who got TOTALLY screwed like this. A guy sent him a check for $52,000 for his 'Vette he was selling online. Had it shipped somewhere in Central or South America. Check came back bounced. Now the guy owes $40+k on the loan and nothing to show for it. OOPS!

If you don't wait for a $52,000 check to clear, you're an idiot.

    DangerBoy,
Just reply to the guy and tell him that he will have to wait for the auciton to end. What he is trying to do is not really a scam, he just knows what it is worth and he wants to get it cheaper and turn around and immediately sell it for a profit. Soliciting you to end the auction early and pay you outside ebay is a violation of Ebay policy.

You shouldn't worry about the fact that there are no bids yet. Many people don't bid until the last few hours of an auction.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I contacted Ebay and they are looking into the potential buyer in question. He's from Taiwan. no feedback rating. Account was set up the same day I got his email.

Ebay has quite a bit of info on their site about such scams.

    DangerBoy,

This is a scam, a firend of mine has gone through similar situation while selling a notebook on ebay. A good warning sign is:

    1. Seller paying extra to end auction
    2. Will send you a money order via western union
    3. Shipment address most probably be out of US.

    thanks

Yep, don't send anything before you have the money (not a check) in your hand. Don't wire money until you have the goods delivered to you.

I have replied to a few in hopes of getting them to spend money by sending something. In first time I got a fake cashiers check send to me, the second time they only send shipment information to UPS and no actual shipment. Now he is talking about how his lawyer is going to get me for not sending him money...LOL.
