Sony Products?

Does anyone know if Sony makes really good comparable products for home audio? I get discounts through Sony for certain products, and am wondering if any would be worth it.

They do have an SACD player, but I don't know if it will play Audio CDs better than my Harman Kardon DVD-22. If I do go that route, I would probably want the DVD Audio capability as well, and so would have to find something else.

I already have a 60" Sony Grand Wega HDTV.

From what I've gathered, the Sony home audio products stand out more as you approach their upper-mid-priced ES products. Their regular line of receivers and DVD players, say in the sub-$1K range, aren't as highly regarded as comparable products from Denon/HK/Yamaha/Onkyo. I might be wrong about this. But their ES line of components are quite nice, as are their TVs.
Polk LSi9 Mains, Polk LSIC Center, Polk RT25i Surrounds, Polk M3II Rear Surround, SVS PB10-ISD Sub, Denon AVR 2809 (as digital pre/pro only), Sony BDP-S350, Oppo DV-981HD, Cambridge Audio Azur 540C (CD), Marantz MM9000 5-ch amp, Outlaw ICBM, Panasonic th-42PX85u HDTV, Behringer BFD Pro, Monster Power HTS 2600 Conditioner

Are you talking about the Sony SCD-CE595 SACD/CD changer? If so, you can get an idea from the review linked.

You won't find any Sony CD/SACD player that does DVD-A. Sony doesn't make a "universal" player. The ONLY Sony thing I own is the DVP-NS500P SACD player. I use it only to play SACDs. I use a Rotel RCD-951 connected to a MSB Link DAC III with 24/132 upsampling for CDs.

Sony makes some cool gear, although you hear Denon, HK, and Onkyo mentioned more. Sony's entry level gear is just that, entry level. But their ES gear is really nice. I've heard the new ES line with the digital amps had problems early on, but have since been fixed. The older ES line is very good. I'm running a DA4es & 999es and loving every minute of it. I'd put it up against a 3802 & 2900 any day. Just my 2cents.;)

a dvd player built into a Coby HTiB will sound better than that thing. You could've saved a ton of money by just getting a Panasonic dvd player and still would've had better sound.

I find with audio that we all develop certain "preferences and prejudicies" with certain brands. The best approach is to evaluate gear based on its intended purpose and its performance other than its brand name. I know I had a few "ugh" feelings about sony for whatever reasons, then the great performance and value I've gotten from my SCD-CD595 and my continued adoration of the beautiful displays they are making helped "cure" that. :-)

I have the Sony ES receiver and ES mega DVD/CD/SACD player and I'm very happy with them. I was a little leary about the player at first because of the complexity of something like that, a lot to go wrong. That was about a year and a half ago and not one problem so far. Can't complain at all. The build quality seems very good too.

Just got a Sony DA5000ES receiver and it is the cats meow. Very nice receiver but I am still learning it. Doesn't get hot at all...

If it isn't ES don't bother.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
