I can't give any advice on your speaker settings, but popping sounds are NO GOOD for your speakers.

I'm going to venture into uncharted waters here as I have no experiance with the sub-miniature speaker systems. I haven't even owned a device called a receiver in fifteen years but here I go anyways...
The RM6600 is a palm sized set of speakers with a powered sub, no? Ok, please help me understand why any of the small sats would be set to large and then the sub set to no. Is this due to the "6ch direct" feature you mention? Can you bypass this and run a standard 5.1SS mode? Just curious."when playing music what is then best configuration?"
I can tell you what THE best configuration is. That would be to shut off your surround speakers and use your fronts with the sub in two channel stereo mode. (If the system will let you.)"Which crossover sounds better 80,90 or 100."
You listen and tell us what you think. You're the one who'll be using the system.
And popping noises? Not good at all!
I'd call Ken Swauger at Polk and run it by him before something bad happens to your equipment. -
Hey Bob.
RM6600 is indeed a small sat with Powered Sub system. The reason for choosing Fronts "Large" is because we recommend running them thru the low pass filter on the sub (front stage hookup: from rec outs to sub ins, then from sub ins to speakers), letting the sub filter a full range signal.
Would this or would this not interfere with any X-over settings you'd perform manually? It seems so, since the sub's filter is doing the work, but I could be wrong-o.
Bob's right -- looks like a job for the mighty Polk Audio Customer Service Gurus. Give em a call, especially before anything bad happens re: popping sounds!

Thanks for the information/lesson on the small sat/sub system. As I said, I've no experience with them.
Now... about that post of mine... something about Polk's designs???
Or does the information I request involve trade/design secrets you'd rather not get into?
