Sure, fine for DVDs. $1300 should about get you both the 70s and the 40s.

by chance where are you shopping for your speakers? the monitors are a Circuit City exlusive if i'm not mistaken.

If you go to a Tweeter, or buy online at J&R and other places, I would seriously recommend the RTI's over the Monitors.
In my opinion, they are a much better sounding speaker. MUCH more refined. Better response, better quality drivers, better stats, real wood vs. monitors vinyl. Actually, the Monitors are the successors to the R line.

The RTI's used to be in circuitcity but Polk wanted to upgrade the speaker line's image and decided to move the RTI's to Tweeter when Tweeter decided to stop carrying Boston Acoustics. Polk saw this as thier chance and took the RTI's upscale. Now they are sold alongside their flagship LSI's. their new starter line, the Monitors are dedicated to circuit city.

If you look up the Monitor 70 which you said was 1299 (?) and compare it to the rti 12 which is only $100 dollars more you will find that there is just no comparison.

Actually the Monitors barely undercut the RTI's in price- it's just that since the RTI's have left Circuit City and the Monitors have come in- they might be the better known line since Circuit City is much more mainstream than specialty stores like Tweeter and various online outlets.

    Hope this helps!

i checked their website- that's not bad.

i'm from NC so i've never heard of the place.

down here the only place that sells monitors as circuit city,
and rti's and lsi's at tweeter.

needless to say, for the minimal price difference, he should seriously the consider the rti's.

    lol.

Greensboro, NC. (for my masters degree only)

When I graduate I'm 'gettin' outta this dump - I think I'm going to move back to Asheville, NC where's there's actually some culture in the air. Greensboro wreaks of Elimidate and the Fuse Network.

    =)
