Ive looked and measured and figured and thought and there is just no way I can fit a .66 box under my seat and keep my amps mounted the way they are. :(

In fact Im doubtful I can come up with .5! I was looking at the JL Audio Stealthbox for my truck and it extends halfway down to the middle of the seat which is just unacceptable.

I want to keep my amps mounted like they are for several reasons. 1- for cooling, 2- if I mount them back any further they will be touching the underside of the seat which is not good and 3- so I can still have storage above the amps for tools ect.

This mean I may have to stick with an 8" sub which I didnt want to do cause I bought this amp specifically to power the MM2104 and now Im gonng have to find an 8 thatll handle 350-400 watts and still sound good.

Hmmm, its not wonder you dont see a whole lot of pickup trucks in car stereo competitions.

And this is how I need to keep my amps mounted.

Pay no attention to the lack of wire management. This is the "in progress" stage and once I get my sub box made I can make my amp rack and route my wires properly.

you don't think that creative fiberglassing can give you close to enough space? even .55 and a buttload of poly would sound better than an 8"

I dont know how to 'glass and I dont want to pay my local shop $500 for a custom box.

Maybe a Kicker L5. I dunno. It screws me up cause my amp was picked for the Polk now Ive not only got to find a sub thatll fit but also one that will match my amp. Thats whay you get for putting the cart before the horse I guess.

I guess I should just build a box as big as I can and then figure out the interior volume and then go from there.

i dunno, the reason i mentioned glass is because it'll squeeze every last cubic inch out of there. you've seen the link to chris's tutorials (if you haven't it'll shortly be on my new page :D), have you read through them? someone of your constructive caliber could surely attempt it :) (no joke, for once).

I havent read Chris' tutorial. Gotta linky?

I have looked up some info on the internet but cant find anything real instructive for what Im needing.

Mac, Glassing is not hard. The most rudamentary and crude enclosure should do fine at least until you tire of the imperfections. Get ya some mat at a boat shop and go to town. Not that expensive to give it a try. If you like it, then go on and add more glass (and $) to it for reinforcing, or scrap the shell and try again.

y'know, before I tried glassing, I was pretty scared to try. Specially cause I didn't want to mess up my car's resale value since I would be cutting door panels unrepairably. If my glassing didn't look great, i'd have been screwed. Anyway, what you saw of my door panels was my very first experience ever at fiberglassing and I think it turned out great. Just read a few tutorials to get the gist of it, and jump in and do it! It's a lot of fun actually, seeing what you yourself have created.

OK. I think you guys have talked me into it after all youre not really a car audio enthusiast til ya 'glass!

Plus this is going to be an external box thats not going to be attatched to the truck other than just laying in that hole so if it looks like crap I can just throw it in the trash and be done with it.

OK, now where do I go to get the stuff? Home Depot or Lowes carry it?

yeah, probably, but boat stores are probably cheaper for the same stuff. cept brushes, not sure if they carry those, and you'll want a few.

After looking at the pictures, it's obvious to me how to fix this problem, real easy......just enlarge the second picture and, viola!! lol

In all seriousness, though, I think you ought to try fibergalssing. From what I've read and from reading Austin's informative thread a while back on when he glassed the MM6 mids in his (umm......forgot what it was) car, it doesn't appear to be too hard. And since it's under the back seat in a pick-up, I'd say it's the perfect spot for a first try. Besides, I'd love to see you make an all Polk (well, at least speaker-wise) system. I know you'd like one, too.

AustinKP - Where are those pics? I'd love to see 'em again.
