I went to officemax last night to get a new cd burner, and I found an older HP model from last year that is being discountinued. Since I murdered my old one, I was wanting to know if this is a decent burner for my pc or do I need to do better. I tried it out last night while making a few travel copies of my originals for the car, and they burned quickly and crisp as ever. What I really need to know is: does an HP burner have pretty good life to it? I know that it is not the top of the line, but what gives? How would you guys rate it?

I had an HP burner back in 99-last year. Did well, was slow compared to today's technology, but it handled lots of burnings. I think the only problems I had with it were with copying Dreamcast games.

I've got a Samsung CD-RW and an Imation DVD-RW now, and both have done very well. I would suggest going to newegg.com and getting one of "drive only" packages they sell. You save a lot of money just getting the drive itself and downloading the drivers from the net. I think my Samsung was about $30 a year ago.

The HP was on its way out and I paid only $24.99 for it. It is pretty fast and the speed is 52x. It can burn an album in 5-7 minutes. My old burner was a Samsung and it went out after a year. It was good, but it was only 40x, I think.

If it lasted you that long (5 years), I should be fine with this HP I got. It is only from 2004, and it did pretty good last night for me. Hopefully it will last that long for me. Thanks for the input, bknauss.:)
