Questions about speaker cables...

What do they mean by "double run" speaker cables. I've seen this mention on a number of sites. Also, the "single run" on Signal Cables site also looks like a double run of a certain gauge wire.
Also, how do they determine what guage it is if say they use two runs of 10, 12, or 14 guage wire?
Thanks,

Double run is used in a bi-wire application. this is when you remove the brass jumpers between the two binding posts on the back of your speakers.
single run is just what it implies... a single run. If you have two pair of binding posts on the back of your speakers then you have to use the jumpers or make your own from speaker cable.
10, 12, or 14 gauge double run will be fine if you don't have super long lengths since the equivalent diameter exceeds the individual diameter. -
pjdami,
Thanks, but I was refering to (as an example) Signal Cables Classic Single wire which looks like it uses two cables wrapped together, also their Ultra (Double Run) Single. Do they use 4 runs of cable? Also the 13 gauge wire they use, is this a combination of say two 18 gauge wires?
Thanks,SYSTEM

Gotcha. Just looked on the website. The Ultra double run single is just two runs of 13 AWG with an equivalent diameter of 10 AWG all in a one pair of binding post connection. So yes, the way I read it they use 4 runs of cable to make two connections on each end. -
pjdami,
Thanks, that clears things up. I thought wires came in even # gauges, I haven't heard of an odd numbered gauge wire before.
Thanks,
