TV Speakers

I own a Sony 60" HDTV model KF-60WE610, which I've had for 6 months.

It has built in speakers, but I haven't used them much because of my Polk Audio sound system, using an HK AVR-230 receiver and Monitor 50's, with a CS1 center and Monitor 30's surround.

My question is, could I use the TV's speakers in conjunction with my Polk to give more spatial presence to the audio? The TV speakers can supposedly do really good sound imaging. however, it makes me wonder why they would build speakers into a $3500 TV knowing many would probalby have their own sound system.

I am asking for advice before I do any wiring. I am in the process of rearranging my equipment because of a new Entertainment Center I purchased.

    I doubt you'll like the end result too much. Apples and oranges kinda thing.

    As for puting speakers in the TV, keep in mind that the vast majority of people that own TV's don't have a clue about how bad the darn thing sounds compared to a semi-decent HT set up (or even a 2 channel set up). Those that do know are the folks that buy moniters instead...well most ofthe time at least.;)

    who told you they sound good? They're only there to provide sound. Not good or great sound, just sound. Sure it's not a clock radio sound but not Polk quality either. Seriously, it's just a TV. Let your TV play the picture, let your Polk's do the sound.

    regarding the quality of the sound ,for sure you will not be very happy but let see the feasiblity of such an act
    if your sony has the plug for connection for the speaker you might be able to use them as presence speaker which the conection is pretty straight forward.
    just be carefull for the volume, if you go too high you might fry them.

    Are monitors really bad speakers? I bought a pair of Polk Monitor 50's for my fronts. I am looking later to stepping up to RTi8. I could have spent $200 more, but at Circuit City at that time, they didn't have these others, so I didn't know about them.

    I really like the funny looking robotic feet of the RTi series. Since my receiver (HK AVR-230) is 8 ohms, I will stick to 8 ohm speakers.

    Also, would there me that much of a difference in the sound quality of 4 ohm speakers vs 8 ohm speakers? If I don't hear a 4 ohm, it won't be something I will miss.

    So later, should I first upgrade my receiver, or upgrade my speakers? I may do this a step at a time. My living room is about 20' by 16' or so and carpeted, but is open to another area about the same size. I have two living room areas, so it is pretty open.

    Not Polk Audio Monitor speakers! TV monitors, as in tube, tuner, and no speakers. That kind of monitor.

    Actually the polkaudio monitor 50 and 60 and 70 are one of the best .

    Thanks for the clarification and confidence booster. At least now I don't have to feel pressured to move to RTi8's.

    But really, would there be a substantial change in quality of sound by moving from Monitor 50's to RTi8's which are double in price?

    Would there then be another exponential step up going from RTI8's to say the LSi Series?

    And finally, settling on a reference tube preamp and tube amps, would there again be an exponential step up in sound quality?

    The real judge on this matter will be your ears,check them out hear them and don't be shy to play with them ,knock yourself out by bringing some of your CD's and listen to them, then you could really say if you notice any differences.
    all dependes to your taste and kind of music you listen.
