I CURRENTLY OWN A 2005 TOYOTA COROLLA. I WANT TO KEEP THE FACTORY HEAD UNIT (I KNOW IT SOUNDS CRAZY), BUT IT LOOKS GOOD ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE DASH AND HAS THE FACTORY SIX DISC IN DASH CHANGER. ANYWAY, I AM LOOKING FOR A QUALITY SYSTEM WITH 6 1/2 COMPONENTS IN THE FRONT, AND 6X9 COAXIALS IN THE REAR. I AM PLANNING ON RUNNING EITHER A FOUR CHANNEL AMP OR (2) 2 CHANNEL AMPS. ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR SPEAKERS AND AMP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I LIKE TO YELL TOO!! but, seeing as this is a polk forum and their products absolutely rule, i'd say take the mmc6500 components for the front and the mmc690 coaxes in the back. optimum results will be achieved using a 400.4 on the fronts and something less powerful than a polk amp in the back (my 300.2 throws down 180x2, rather more than those speakers can take. since rears are less important, you can spend less on their amp and never know the difference (okay, let's not start in with that one again, yah, guys?). are you interested in subs?

For a modest system you could run all four speakers off the 400.4. That little beauty puts out over 90x4! That would be enough for the components and the 6x9's.

I'm a little curious, but what exactly do you need and have to do to add an amplifier while still using the stock headunit?

    Thanks

If the amp accepts speaker level inputs then you run your speaker wires to the amps inputs.

If the amp does not accept speaker level inputs then you get a line level converter which converts speaker inputs into RCA outputs and then run that to your amp.

Youll also have to fashion up a remote turn on for the amps as well. This is usually done off one of the fuses that gets power with the ignition, like the radio fuse.

Thanks for the explanation MacLeod. Some of the headunits in the new vehicles today are so large and incorporated into the dash and vehicle that I think it would be a pain to take out.

Oh well, there are still guys that go through all that stuff. What a great hobby:)

Most new cars are very "anit-aftermarket audio" it seems. The head units now have A/C controls, GPS controls and everything else. You cant take the h/u out without crippling your ride!

I wouldnt give up tho. Go talk to some local shops. There may be some kits already on the market or some easy way around your stock h/u.
