I have two questions.

When I was at my local audio dealer looking for speakers, I compared several different sets (Alpine, MTX, Polk) and I thought the Polks sounded the best. They didn't have the seperates in stock, only the MMC525's and MMC650's.

Since I am limited on the space I have for the front soundstage (1970 Mach 1 Mustang) I bought the 525's and plan on installing them in the doors. I also got a screaming deal on another set for the rears off e bay.

So first question:

Since I was never able to audition the MMC5250 components, what will I be missing? I am going to be molding custom enclosures for these, and working on angling them for the best front soundstage, but will the sound suffer?

Second question:

I have the stock space up in the dash (right in the middle of the dash pad) where I could mount a mid/tweet and use it as a center channel to help things a bit.

now should I abandon the rear speaker idea, and run one of the 525's up in that space? I also have a set of MTX5000 5.25's and tweets, and an old (but like new) PPI 2030 amp that I could hide somewhere.

Would I simply bridge the PPI amp to whatever I run up in the dash to give me the effect of a center channel?

I appreciate your thoughts everyone.

1- yes you will be missing out. By having the tweeter firing low, youre missing out on a lot of detail and just overall goodness of these tweeters. High frequencies are very directional and you dont get much off axis. However these do have swivel tweets so you may be able to aim them enough so that you can still get some good performance out of em. Also the MMC5250 has a much more superior crossover. Remember, you get what you pay for. $150 speakers wont sound as good as $300 speakers.

2nd- Unless youre running a 5.1 surround system dont use a center channel.

Ditch the rear speakers and use that PPI 4 channel to bi-amp the Polks. Run the tweets off the front channels of the amp and thru the x-over. Run the mids off the rear chanels of the amp straight to the mids. They will be running full range. High pass the mids at 80 Hz. Then set your gains at no more than the noon position and then adjust them til they blend right. Usually youll have the mids at noon and the tweets gain set to 10:30 or so.

Also, youre going to need a sub. 5.25 speakers cannot make any bass at all and Im pretty sure youre not going to to be happy with your bass response.

    I have the IDQ12 D4 V.2 that I will be running off a Polk 500.1.

The MTX 5000 tweets I have are brand new 1" soft domes. Should I maybe not run the tweets in the 525's and locate the MTX's up higher somewhere?

Or should I e bay both sets of 525's and get the 5250's?

    crap.

Forget the MTX tweets. MTX makes some of the best audio equipment in the world.....except for speakers. The Polks are much better. Plus theyre matched for the Momo mids.

    Excellent sub by the way.

I stick by my first suggestion. Ditch the rears and bi-amp the fronts.

If you want to go thru all the hassle I would get the MMC5250's. Actually I would get the MMC6500's. They sound better to me. Im not a big fan of 5.25's.

I don't have the space for a 6.5. The door panels on a 70 Mach 1 are such that it would really look out of place.

Ok, I will sell the 525's, and get a set of 5250's and run the 400.4 as you recommended.

Thanks bro, I appreciate the help.

Thats cool. That IDQ is plenty more than ample for bass response.

Hate to get serious here...but do you guys feel the Image Dynamics CXS65 Chameleons are comparable to, or better than the MMC6500's?

I took my MMC525's back to the store I bought them from and got a full refund ($161.95). I can get the MMC6500's off E bay all day long for 185.00, and the I.D's are about 250.00.

Opinions? This is completely about S.Q.

You like them better Mac? Or is it just a marginal difference for an extra 70 bucks?

I really like the way the Momos sound. They are extremely detailed and that is a big plus to me. Plus they seem to be a little smoother.

Now I should admit Ive only head ID components once or twice on a soundboard in a shop in Texas about 2 years ago so take it with a grain of salt.
