I need this thing like Custer needed another indian. I burned it in for somebody. Sorry to ask it, but I paid $80 including the shipping to my home. It is virtually mint, and maybe has 75-100 hours burn-in on it (stand-alone burn in, it has about an hour of time actually hooked to The He-Man Rig).

So $80 + shipping or just plain $80 for a local pick-up. I'm not shipping international and that includes Canada.

It means nothing to me, but a thumbs up from Stereophile might mean something to you, and that's just what it got.

    George,
Not sure what this is. Is it the SD-3960 single disk DVD player or some older model CD player?

Maybe you're welcome to take it off my hands for what I paid for it. I picked it up largely on your recommendation.

It's new Max. You feel so strongly about these you can buy it, modify it, and sell it for big bucks.

Its to bad for George that this player is available for $55 most anywhere. George, my suggestion is to just put this thing in your magic closet for a few years, and hope that by then it will be a cult classic worth more than you paid for it. Otherwise, find a bedroom to put this in.

Yeah, you're lucky if you get $40 for it. You may wanna reconsider the mods. For $30 in parts, you can turn that pumpkin into a princess.

Thanks for the info on current pricing guys. I don't get out a lot and didn't realize it was still being sold.

As far as sinking another dime into this thing, I don't think so.

Into the box for storage in the Magic Closet it is. Couple years from now you guys can be my certification that it has virtually no time on it.

Due to the fact that it is Easter, a holiday, why don't I let your moron statement pass?

Because I already have very nice cd machines here, and don't feel like getting taken for another dime.

    Whine this Frankenstein.

    Happy Easter stupid.

i just hooked up my 3960 to my HDTV for the first time last night and watched a movie. I was impressed by the video quality of the darn thing for the $60 i paid for it.

The PQ was the same as my older more expensive Toshiba.

I still like the analog outputs for CD listening. using the coax audio output didn't sound any different. the magic is in the analog L&R output stage only i think.

You guys think that with $80 invested in this thing that I don't WANT to hear great sound? Believe me, I'd be thrilled if I did. Maybe I just don't want to hear it AS BAD as others. Even others that have less of an investment than I do. Much less.

This thing is nothing to write home about, that's for certain.

Move on... as someone who is experienced with a lot of equipment, you should know better than most that what sounds good to others may not sound good to you, and vice versa. It does not mean that the equipment sucks - just that it sucks to you. Thats fine. Its 80 bucks, for Pete's sake. Thats at least 30 more than you should have paid for it, which is your own fault.

Sure... many of us (me included) have not had the good fortune to experience the sound of separate transports and high end DAC's. If I could afford those, I would spring for them, and if it turned out I did not like em, I would not be whining like a big baby about all the bad advice I was given. I would eBay the thing, take my losses and start again.

You might consider doing the same.

Ummm......I don't think he's assumed anything. All he's said so far is that he doesn't like it and wants to sell it. Everyone else that likes it seems to be taking exception to that for some reason.

Chill the **** out and ignore the thread if you're not in the market for the player.

Quit the whining and do the effin mods.
so don't try to play holier than thou. I'm sure you're at least bright enough to not need the entire convo run down for you.

I didn't claim to be totally tactful, and I'd imagine if you asked really nice you'd have a few people tell you so.

Bottom line, this is a for sale thread. Are you buying? If not, shove off. (and to your arguement on why I'm posting, I'm telling you to take your meds because taking a dump like you've done here in peoples threads is childish at best, and DEFINITELY not welcome)

I LOVE it when someone acts like a complete **** in a situation that they have NOTHING to do with........yeah, I can't IMAGINE why George wouldn't want to plunk another couple hundred in a machine he doesn't really need anyway (BRILLIANT advice btw).....and then has the nerve to act surprised.

i have the Tosh myself and am quite surprised with its performance just stock. maybe it just gets along with my system better than it gets along with georges. I'm certainly not going to get offended if he doesnt like it.
I've met george, and while i only met him for a day, i know that if he doesnt like something in his system, he is not going to continue to use it,plain and simple. I've also heard his system (both of em) and from what i've heard, quality of the source is none too much of an issue for him. Mods or no Mods, dont worry about him, he'll be juuuuuust fine.

    Guys,
Give it up on this thread. George wanted to sell it for what he bought it for. The prices have dropped, so now he's just gonna put it in storage rather than sell it for a sharp loss. He doesn't want to fuss with it. End of story.

Anymore talk about this player should be moved over to the appropriate forum. This is supposed to be a sales thread.

Its amazing how much hype can be created about a player that is otherwise very average.

I suppose anonymous didn't mean to offense George with the above sentence, personally I will take it as a suggestion, it's just a way one would convince the other or make a suggestion that he thinks is very worth doing. to my understanding, it's kool
