Talk about a lame movie...had no real point..no suspense...no action...nothing...

Not even worth a rental...you wont miss anything...

Toxis might like it though...

Sound was pretty good though, good bass at times...surround use was excellent to with my 2.1 system :)

I have all the pieces for a surround sound system...Just don't want one...

Infact, while watching the Matrix Revolutions just now...I don't even miss surround sound...

I had stuff infront, beside, AND behind me throughout the entire move, and not to mention the house falling in from all the bass...

5.1 isn't needed ALL the time man ;) - as long as your mains can image...your good...

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy 5.1 better for movies...but 2.1 costs less, and can give similar results :)

Right now Im using a Sony mini system I bought back in 1998. Its only a 2.0 Dolby Surround (no sub) but it sounds pretty good. Manages to pump out some good bass too considering its only using 6.5's. Its enough that it could easily get me convicted.

My only complaint is that sometimes, if there is a lot of action going on, its hard to hear the dialogue.

One question, how does 2.0 work? For instance, we were watching Jurassic Park 2 and this dude is running from Compys thru a stream and throwing rocks at them. When it shows him from the front, the sound is in front of us. Then it switches to a view behind him with him throwing the rocks towards the screen and now the water splashes are behind me.

How exactly does it do that with only 2 channels of audio?

i have no idea what dolby 2.0 surround does or what lengths it goes to with encoding, but, strictly from vanilla 2 channel you can get a strong sense of motion on the same speaks and music by simply changing eq trims.

you can probably get an idea of what i'm talking about by flipping through preset trims on your player or pre/pro. some trims will focus the image into a small tight package between the speaks, others will tend to go outside the speaks or envelope you more or tend to roll at you from the floor or ceiling.

add to that that, i think, most folks' ears get alot more info than what their brain actually identifies as useful or what makes sense. most folks, i guess, focus on front stage while listening to 2.0 and ignore sounds that distract them from or contradict what they think is supposed to be going on with the front image.

if that's how a person normally listens, then when they instead focus on sound coming from behind them or above them, all of the sudden they might ~hear~ things that their brain normally tells them to ignore if the music, room acoustics and gear don't get in the way too much.

so, from just those 2 factors and the suggestion from a video alone it's not difficult to get an idea of what processing can do without even adding reverb or anything trickier than that. where say, how movement on the screen augmented by cascading eq trims, could direct your focus further to your sides, rolling towards you from the floor or ceiling, which could get you to focus on the sounds from directions you'd normally ignore, probably further helped by exagerated build up of frequencies that would bounce around a normal room like crazy even with normal eq trims.

or,.. maybe i just made my coffee a little too strong today and need little sleep.

    I dunno.

If I had to guess I would say that the surround speakers are crossed over for certain frequencies and the audio tracks have the surround parts set at the frequency and....maybe...one or....ah to hell with it. I JUST DONT KNOW!!!
