I am new to the sterio market. I primairly play music. I have recently purchased a Yamaha RX-777 reciever and a set of RTi8's. I also have an entry level Polk Sub - PSW202.
I really like this set up. Here is my delemia. I would like the system to sound a little more crisp and clean. A friend of mine -who's opinion I respect - suggested that I am not really using the RTi's to their full potential. He suggested (2) Outlaw Mono-block 200 amps. He said try this first before changing speakers or other components. I am looking for some feedback on if this is my best solition. I am also an a budget. Thanks. PRC

adding separate power amps should improve the sound of any system, and the Outlaw mono's are a good start.

Have fun, the spending has just began ;)
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

I recommend you take the sub out of the system. They can blur bass and make the midrange too thick if not high quality and setup properly.

I tried to incorporate a very good SVS into my 2-channel, and didn't like the outcome.

My experience is exactly the opposite. I use a good sealed (not ported) sub and really like the results. The the key word his is "good". I've owned 2 of the PSW202s and IMO they work ok for an entry HT set up in a small room but I would not use one in a 2 channel music system. They tend to be a little boomy and I tried several tweeks like additional polyfill and stuffing the ports...which didn't really help. If the 202 is all you have...take it out of the system...but don't rule out trying a better sub such as an Adire, SVS, HSU or Dayton.

    Welcome PRC.

By all means get a couple of Outlaw Mblocks & watch your speakers come alive! They are only 299.00 But see if they have any for sale in B-stock which will get you some a little cheaper.

Let us know what you decide.

That would be a great start for $600 but there's a lot of options out there. I bought a used 7 or so year old Rotel stereo amp for $265 (120x2) and absolutely love it. Don't hesitate to look into the used market. Ebay and Audiogon can be friends if you know how to use them.

The used market can be your wallet's friend.

My current system contains nothing purchased new by me. I love it.
