Hi Gang,
I just wired up my test for a DIY SDA. I bought four cheap midrange drivers and wired them using a plan for a matirx surround set up. The matrix wiring gives you the difference channel to build the SDA. Then you just have to arrange the speakers and wire the difference signal out of phase in the cancelation drivers.
This is just a test with unmounted drivers, so it sounds terrible, but the imaging in amazing! I don't hear any illusion of sound from outside the space between the speakers though. But the speakers totally disapear and instruments are precicely paced in the soundstage. Pretty cool!
I'll mock up a full speaker with woofers and tweeters to see how the whole thing sounds and to play with the set up. Once I get that working I'll build a nice set with proper drivers and a well designed crossover.
I'm pretty excited though. Neat project. Not sure it's really how the SDAs work, but it's a similar illusion. I think it's going to be a cool speaker system when I get it all done.
Take care,
Ed

Cool1 Sounds like a neat project. How about some pics.

Not much to look at right now. That's a closet rod- the speakers are just stuck on with their magnets. Makes it easy to experiment with different distances between the drivers.
Just some speakers, one resistor and wire. Lots of wire.
